257 Bob on 700 SA ?

Has anyone chambered a 257 Roberts or 257AI on a Remington 700 short action? Does this installation work, OAL ? If I use a Mauser or Rem. long action, I might as well use a 25-06, I think. Any suggestions appreciated.

Liketoshoot :  The 257 roberts was chambered in the re. 700bdl mountain rifle as a factory caliber, and if uou are going to rebarrel a existing short action of a rem 700, it will work as the 257 oal is 2.750 and the 308 which is a short action caliber is 2.800 hope this helps  :D    JIM

Remington originally chambered the 257 in the M722 which was for all practical purposes a M700 short action.  Yes the 257 will work just fine in the Remington short action.. Case capacity loss from overall length restrictions is too small to be significant..  They make lovely little rifles.  I restock a 722 for my brother.  he loves it..

New actions are available from Brownells now, but I'm unsure if this is to be a permanent arrangement..  You might also find a donor rifle, but lately the local gunshows have had these rifles at a premium price.  Good luck on the project..  I have a Roberts in a pre64 M70 and it's great..

I just saw one of these in a local shop slightly used for $400 OTD.
Had a Remington recoil pad on it, did the first Mtn Rifles have the pad?
