It sounds like it's the A-6 intruder of the chopper world. Both do their job better than anything else does. If it ain't broke there is no need to fix it. Just build new ones to replace the worn out ones.

Never happen, at least not for a few more decades.  Most of the birds we have may have been designed 40 years ago but I can assure you, they are practically brand new.  This LB can be deployed by many means, cargo aircraft, flatbed, or even a toy hauler, and it can do things no other platform can do.  Until we stop having a need for hostage recue, and hi-value target acquisition we will keep flying these things.
BTW, I didn't/don't fly these, but have ridden the pods and have had side seat experience (thanks to a great CO), but my main job was providing fuel and ammo to them near their objective because they are still unable to be aerial refueled, unlike our other birds.

There's been a big push for years
to get rid of " old fashioned " concepts
such as manned aircraft and put the
emphasis on drones and other
remotely controlled machines

The PTBs don't want us to kill
any enemies God forbid, just to
scare them off ( as if that's ever
worked)
And we're too busy abandoning
many of our former allies to worry
about details such as winning.
Winning is not allowed, even in
kid's soccer games. Haven't you
heard?
