Contender Black Powder
« on: March 07, 2004, 11:32:37 AM »
Hey guys. Bought an early contender in 45lc/.410. Beauty of a gun with very few shots thru it. Thought of deer hunting but have read some posts discouraging that with this barrel. Also, is there a safety on this gun? And how do I identify the hammer assembly and the barrel lug type? The gun will actually fire if enough pressure is put on the trigger guard, I've been told that is typical. I love to black powder hunt and I was wondering if anyone has done that with a contender pistol? Thanks for the info and God bless!

Hmmm, no, that's not typical.

Now, the hammer will drop if the trigger guard is depressed, but this should not fire the gun, it's kinda a 'hammer drop' safety type of thing.  That's actually the recommended method of returning the hammer to rest if you cock the handgun and then decide not to shoot (at least that's what my owners manual said).

To be honest, I have not shot the gun yet to see if it will actually fire. I've also been tring to get a manual out of t/c but i can't get any repsonses from them. I've had no dealing with the service department. Is their service good?

I have never had one problem with T/C customer service or any department. I called and they took my name and address and I had the book to me in a weeks time. T/C is great to deal with IMHO.   :D

in the part of Maryland I live in I can only hunt deer with a muzzle loading handgun. I sold off several barrels and ordered a 209x50 , 14 inch barrel from bullberry I use 90 grs of pyrodex p under a hornady 240 xtp bullet.
the barrel is very fun to shoot and I have taken a few deer with it (and this past season I missed many, many more).

if you have any questions just shoot me an email or pm and I will be happy to help if i can.
