anyone here still shoot
« on: August 03, 2021, 10:37:36 PM »
About all the posts are political and religious based. Me? I took yesterday off from the house building. Mostly because i just had a hip replacement and cant do much to help anyway. Took a couple 9s and a couple ars to the range and shot up about 500 rounds yesterday. Some of you should try it. Way to much greybeard INDOORS on here lately. its getting to be about as gun orientated as the other greybeards. Only one that seems to post gun stuff on here is Bill. Today i might even reload that empty brass. How novel. Heck I just found out we start shooting deer at the farm next week. Thats always good news. Cleaned out the freezers and gave dad the last 50lbs of venison i had from last year. Nothing i love more then outdoors and guns.

Yep, the wife and I were at the range yesterday with a couple of High STDs and a derringer. Met a friend from church who wanted to bust a few caps. Afterwards, she cut our hair (that's one of her ministries, cutting hair). Good morning was had by all.

There does seem to be a lack of hunting and firearms related posts. Lots of political stuff though.

actually our guns are pretty secure right now. With blacks and women being the biggest buyers even the democrats are awful quiet about any gun control legislation. Not that it cant happen but i feel more secure then i did a year ago.

 Good stuff Lloyd, I try to get out weekly (weakly)? with a friend before church. This past some cast trials thru a 17 enfield. May go again today w same gat.

 For as much as I used to love to shoot it seems easy to blow it off. Don't know why hope it doesn't worsen. Same goes for being outside.

I shoot just about every Sunday afternoon with one or more of the grandkids. Not a lot to say about dinging a 6 inch steel plate at 50 yards. I guess I could pull up some pics of which ever old 22 we shoot. Last week it was a Stevens Favorite 1894.

Not like I used to shoot. My youngest grandson Wyatt, now 14 shoots more than me. I go up to my range with him and sometimes shoot with him.

I often post of our shooting outings but it seems to generate next to no interest. I've seen no replies at all to the last post I made so I've not even bothered to post about the last couple of times we shot.

Seems all folks here now want to talk about is politics and that and the PBSF are the only forums it seems folks read anymore.

   Not as much as I used to shoot.  Last week I got rid of a pesky woodchuck..right there in the village..although surrounded with shrubbery.

   I did him in with my New England Versa Pak..  using CCI quiets.  Those CCI quiets are great for quiet shooting, but still relatively hard hitting.  Only 710 fps, like the CB caps, but a full 40 grains.
  They are especially quiet with a longer barrel..I have a Winchester model 67 and a Savage 66B "buckhorn' ..both with 24" barrel..  The Versa was quicker to hand though...

  Will be going down to my woods soon with our church security team..for a bit of practice and training.

I have been once this week and intend to go again early tomorrow. I don't post about it for the reasons Lloyd mentioned. The  pot bellied stove forum should merge with the political forum as they have become pretty much the same thing. Most of the others are either dead or on life support.

I have said and can say again post a wonted to buy or wont to sell several years ago and you got responses very quick something posted for sale and it was gone in a few hours or maybe a day or 2 now no action. There was always someone looking to buy something. now no action at all. Very few if any talking about their latest gun or some type of equipment.

cant argue guys. I remember back about 20 years ago when even the single action section got 10 or more posts a day. Now its rare even one a month. When the politics and religion crap started the shooting seemed to end. It absolutely ruined the other fourm. I fear it will do the same here. Guys can talk about guns and shooting and disagree and still walk away friends. Isnt that way with politics and religion, and that includes me. Id like to say get rid of it all together but for the most part the shooters and reloaders and hunters have left and I doubt there going to come back. Its sad for me and id bet for bill too. This place used to be one of the biggest guns and outdoors forums on the internet. I had hopes this place was going to change all of that and get back to its roots but maybe its just times have changed. The other fourm has a big problem with liberals. At least here thats a tiny problem. I know Matt and Bill put there hearts into this and I thank them both. Maybe in time the shooting and hunting sections will take off and the politics and religion sites will die but im not holding my breath.

  Hey guys!  Try to keep in mind, it is a large forum, and people post where they wish.  If Matt were to start limiting the places or subjects one can post in or about, the membership would likely plummet.

  Observe what happened to the old GBO, when the managers decided to limit things.  Again, free will..if you don't like a certain subject/forum, just don't bother to visit there. You will note, there are many forums I don't participate in, and that is simply because I don't share that interest.  Nothing wrong with those forums, others apparently like them.
There are many different forums here, and just as many choices, just choose you interests ..and go at it !

I have no problem with the number of forums here. The more the better. I was simply pointing out that the pot bellied stove is mostly an extension of the political forum now and a great deal of the others get no action at all. Post in one and it just sits there with no response. I think a big part of it is age. People get to the point their health prevents them from doing much of what this site is about and they lose interest and quit, some die, and some just drift off to other things. I have noticed some of the other sites I go to are having the same problem with diminished posts and loss of members. Some, not all of us, tend to be a little touchy on some subjects when they shouldn't but it is still a pretty good group of the few remaining regulars.

I don't always log on as much as
I used to because I don't have
the same internet access I had
a year-year and a half ago.
I would imagine many others
are in the same boat.
I belong to other sites that I don't
often visit because of different
things I don't care for.
One has become all about the gear
and a lot of "unboxings ", which
I don't understand at all.
A couple have turned into a
one-upmanship contest and
i don't believe any of them even
shoot any of the guns they buy
before they post them for sale
so they can buy something else
to post.
One had a big fuss over one
group of members thought that
people should pay whatever the
price of guns and ammo and
loading components was no
matter how absurd,  the other
group chastised them for
enabling the gougers. The others
say whatever the market will bear,
etc. etc. etc. etc.

I guess people love to hold on to
their misery

did some blasting yesterday. Took my 7 inch bo ar15 loaded with some pc cast bullets and went and shot about 300 rounds pounding on the steel targets. About as close to a giggling kid as this old guy gets.

My second range trip this week got canceled because of a sick wife. I am not about to go off and leave her when she is feeling bad. She is feeling better this morning so maybe tomorrow morning.

 It seems like most have slowed up on getting to the range regularly, no reason to not start a post though.

 If lack of product to shoot is the issue, that's one thing. I just need to get outta work early enough and can go most weekdays and any weekend in general.

 Started to egg a friend on, who moved 1000 miles away to a 'text' match. Fire a target at your range, send a pic and get ready for some ribbing. All in fun. Could be done here loosely with a postal type event, other forums do. My problem I can't post pics right now via forum, email, etc.
Hold still while I overthink this.

  From Lloyd;

              "About all the posts are political and religious based."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  Actually, politics, religion and medicine (Covid related), is about where the interest seems to lie right now.
  Just this morning, I tried to break the pattern in pot bellied stove, with a post called "passing it on", with what I thought may be an interesting video.
  So far I have had 19 views..no comments.  Must be the interest is still politics, religion & medicine...
Maybe it's the lack of interest in videos. I rarely ever watch videos folks post. I do sometimes and honestly find most that folks post of no interest to me personally. Some tho I do find interesting.
I didn't click the link on yours, haven't clicked on one in a couple weeks I don't think.
I do read most every post but just don't watch many videos, dunno if others are like that or not.
  I can understand why most don't care to dip into a lengthy video, so if/when I post one I try to keep it short, and post the expected time lapse.
  The video I posted under "passing it on", refers to the passing on of my shop to my grandson ..  I thought that grandfathers here might enjoy seeing great grandson, a 7 year old boy, shun the I-phone, and forge a blade..
   I thought some grandpas here might enjoy such....and it can't be more than a 20 second video.
  Sometimes I find a particularly interesting video, such as the one I just posted, which I labeled as "an education on transpiring history..in less than 10 minutes"
  It explains much of what is going on today, and how Soros is deeper into the middle of things, even more than many imagined.
  He seems to be the inspiration for the destructive body of globalist billionaires.
  Yes, for most news I would rather read.. but sometimes only a video will tell the whole story.  remember "one picture worth a thousand words"..even more so with a video..in selected cases
another one who doesnt do videos. At least not unless its something that really interests me. Buddys send me email links about daily and i probably dont look at one in a hundred of them. One of the problems i have with links to videos and websites is on the computer you can find a site that someone calls themselves an expert on about any subject. Most  of it is just people looking for there 5 minutes of fame. Id much rather read on here what YOU experienced. What guns and loads or real life experiences YOU had. If i want videos or links its easy to type what i want to see in the search bar. Good expample is people send me links to hickcock testing guns and ammo. I dont want to see his paid comericals for the gun manufactures that RARELY get a bad review. Id rather here if from guys here i trust that arent getting free guns and ammo and tell it like it is. Same with religion and politics. I can find some off the wall website to back up any point of view even the craziest opinions. You can even find doctors and preachers that sell there soul for 5 minutes of fame and some face book posts.
People talk about what they want to talk about. They talk about what currently has most of their interests, what ever that might be.
As far as shooting? I haven't lived here long enough to meet any of the ranchers, so I joined the local gun club. It's a nice isolated range, but because of their insurance being thru the NRA, I had no choice in joining the NRA, if I wanted to shoot there. I wasn't happy about it, but thems the rules.
My shooting is not very interesting to most, I don't shoot bullseyes, I'm not interested in tight little groups, or long range.
I shoot center mass targets, and maintain muscle memory from different positions. I go to the range in the mornings, during the week, hopefully when no one else is there.
I don't post my sessions because they aren't very interesting, because its rather methodical with a purpose.
With 45 years of training, and training others, in certain skills, its mostly habit now.
To each his own. I like to hear steel ring but I also like to see just how close I can put the next bullet hole to the one before and at different distances.
