I get that. I just have no interest in it myself. My shooting totally revolves around a past career, and a certain skill set.

I love every aspect of it. One day ill shoot steel with a 38 the next with a 9 40 or 45. Next time might see me out with a 44 mag. Next it might be working up accuracy loads for a long range deer rifle. Next might be pounding steel with an ar15. Honestly i rarely have a plan. I just look the the safes and grab what tickles my fancy that day. About the only things i rarely shoot anymore are shotguns and 22s. No mandatory NRA at my range but everyone is a member and that would be me.

I shoot most days. Got a 50 yard gong set up in my back yard. Mostly I shoot my pistols just to keep in as good a form as I can. I’m not as steady as I was a few years ago. Guess that’s why i shoot my shotguns more too. Use them to keep,the varmits at bay. But it’s good practice.

yup my skills with a handgun arent what they used to be. I think its mostly my eye sight. Its fading and i about refuse to wear glasses and my eye problems are mostly focusing up close so when i wear my bifocals i find my self with a good rear sight view and  blurred front sight which is the opposite of what it should be. Throw in shifting to the target and its gotten frustrating. So i go without and now just have a front sight clear and the rear and target are getting tougher and tougher to see. So i find myself especially with off hand shooting taking to long to shoot and thats not the kind of habit you want to get into for defensive shooting. So my "Bullseye" type shooting is for the most part over and i just take handguns out and pound steel with them. I paint them fluoresent orange so there easy to see and do alot of practice drawing from a holster and shooting.

Well Lloyd I ordered one of those Romeo sig sights. Going to put it on a AR or a shotgun. Not sure which. I keep 2 shotguns by my chair now. One for bumps in the night and one for varmits of the furry kind that like to raid my bird feeder. They said it comes on when you pick it up. Guess that’s like the ones you have.

ive got a half a doz romeo 5s and swear by them. Probably the best bang for the buck in a red dot. What i do for shotguns is put a flashlight on them. One that you can adjust the light from a spot to a flood. I set it on the smallest brightest setting. Indoors its about like using a lazer but obviously a bigger dot and an advantage it that it lights of the target. As the range its longer so does the center of the light and it coincides fairly close to the pattern opening up. I put a pressure switch on the pump. so that when i grab it the switch is right there and its momentary so you dont advertise where you are unless you want to. the ones i have are leds and when focused like that give a small square right in the middle of the light pattern.  i have one on a 12 guage that has an adustable mount but dont remember where i got it but you can usually tweak the mount to get it to aim the light center mass up close and with a shotgun there usually close enough as is. Just try to find a mount that keeps the light as close to the barrel as possible.

I am a little late to this thread but I did go shooting yesterday morning before the wind attacked. I go to my friend's 1,000 yard range on their ranch, seven miles form my house. I was dialing in three rifles that had been the victim of musical scopes. I was just shooting 50 yards for an initial setting. I shot a 223 Encore with a 24" New Hampshire barrel, a Browning Low Wall in 22 Hornet and a Winchester Low Wall in 22 LR. It was fun, may have to move some other scopes around! I did find that the 1885 22LR shot the Wolf Match Target very well, the shocker was the Mini Mags did almost as well. The Minis are accurate enough for ground squirrels at the fairly short range that I shoot them at. That way I can save my Wolf M/T stash for special occasions. Keep shooting and stay safe!

I usually shoot every other week if not more. Right now we are quarantined since we had lunch with my sister who has now been tested as having covid. Until our tests come back, we are locked down. Mostly I shoot .22 lr, but lately it has been an H&R using a .223 barrel I got from someone here. Bore is a little rough, but shoots good enough to hunt larger sized game at 100 yds. I'm getting from 2" to 5" depending on the loads, at 100 yds. Our club starts "Public Sight In Days" next week. It goes on for a month so folks can get sighted in before hunting season starts.
Sometimes it is humorus to watch, but, hopefully, it makes life in the woods a bit safer. I have seen some guys fire three shots and get them on a 12"X12" target and say they are sighted in and ready for deer season.

She has a reasonably new 10/22, and I have a new 10/22 and a new to me Remington 581 heavy barrel.
I just made a target stand today.
I made a sand bag to lay on the base in case of wind, and will go to U-haul and buy a box to make target backers.
No kind of metal is allowed in your stand.
It can be taken apart easily.

The previous owner had the action threaded and a 22" heavy barrel screwed in like a centerfire rifle.
He glass bedded the action and free floated the barrel.
He added a second action screw right ahead of the trigger guard.
And last but not least, he installed a Timney trigger.

If you have a 581, a gunsmith can adapt a Timney trigger for a 788.

If you have a 581, a gunsmith can adapt a Timney trigger for a 788.

  I have several of the Remington 500 series 22's, and the 540XR came with a heavy bbl. and a very good adjustable trigger, generally they are very accurate.

  The 541-S's also came with that same trigger, and I do have several of those triggers, but you can drill/thread and add a screw to the std. trigger and make them very good too.

  The 541-S models were also very accurate 22's

Here's the little woman with her "assault" rifle as she calls it.
She shot this at 25yds offhand as fast as she could pull the trigger, drop a magazine, grab a loaded magazine out of my hand, and keep firing.
I was in fear of her shooting my new target stand to pieces, so I bought her a bipod for her birthday.  (Sept. 9)
She probably thinks there's jewelry in that box.   I think it will shrink her groups.

The serious shooters lot test. Testing different lots of the same ammo looking for the batch that produces the best accuracy in a particular rifle. I tested at Lapua’s indoor test facility in Ohio.

Win 52’s, Rem 40X’s and Anschutz’s are somewhat competitive but won’t win big time matches.  I average a point or two behind the custom rifles.

Barrels are a big deal. Shilen ratchet’s and octagon’s are a favorite. They have minimal rifling that allows for less drift in a given wind. Wind is the deciding factor in many outdoor matches. We use flags and probes to monitor the wind, then shoot sighters to figure the hold off.

Well I'll tell ya, I'm impressed.
If my new to me rifle could shoot like that I'd be as happy as a hog in his wallow.
I plan to enter the fun shoots over at RFC with that rifle in class 2  and my new 10/22 in class 1 stock rifles.

Last night I window shopped at the different ammo vendors on line and most of the ammo like you have is out of stock.
Hopefully, the ammo shortage will be at an end soon.

RFBR is a fine endeavor. Both fun and frustrating. Some targets you feel great and others with the dreaded flyer, I feel like that ski jumper on the old Wild World of Sports. (The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat).

Think Killoughs has Eley Match in stock. Haven’t shot much Eley but know guys that love it.

Bug, when I was young I shot targets at the range. We made out target stands out of 1”x 2” lumber and used acoustic ceiling tiles to staple the targets too. I shot mostly pistols.

But I do favor a weight forward rifle. Been thinking about a Ruger 10-22 target model. Right now I have the 10-22 FS stainless. But in spite of the full length stock it still does not give me the weight forward balance I like.

There are no markings on the barrel, so who knows where he got it.   Would be nice if it were a Hart or Shilen.

I shoot regularly. Mostly I shoot pistols. I am usually able get to the range three or four times a week. More often than not, I shoot at 50 yards using a 1911 and .45 ACP handloads or a Nelson .22 conversion. The other commonly used gun is a Ruger SBH .44 Mag.
Three weeks ago i took a break from pistols to play with a couple of rifles that I have not shot in a while. One was a WWII,  M1 carbine. The other is one of those guns that you own just because but have no real use for….in this case it is a Ruger #1 Tropical chambered for the fine .416 Rigby. Shooting at 100 yards.
Often, I will bet an afternoon of Trap done also.
Shooting right now is suspended while I recoverfrom last week’s operation on my spine.

Mid October to mid November I check zero on my deer hunting rifles, then I deer hunt till mid January. February-April I play with new to me rifles a couple days a week, then its back to work.  :'(

The fun shoots over there Look like fun.
The person in charge sets the rules, chooses the targets, chooses the max scope power to use, and all targets are shot at 25yds.
There's 3 classes, you choose where you want to shoot.
Then you post a picture of your best target, brand of rifle, scope, rest, and excuses for a bad target.
All in fun.

I guess you'd like my 581.
That 22" heavy barrel is sure noticeable.
