The fun shoots over there Look like fun.
The person in charge sets the rules, chooses the targets, chooses the max scope power to use, and all targets are shot at 25yds.
There's 3 classes, you choose where you want to shoot.
Then you post a picture of your best target, brand of rifle, scope, rest, and excuses for a bad target.
All in fun. :)
Sounds like a lot of fun. I have a Remington target 22 (513-T?) that I shot in local matches 40 years ago. If memory serves me correctly, it shot about any brand ammo well enough that I was competitive.

I'm gonna join them.  Their excuses are funny, such as "the earth over rotated as the trigger broke."
BTW, that 513-T is a fine target rifle.  I watched a video last week with a review and some shooting with a 513-T.

I picked up a 513-t at a local auction and it shoots real well. I like it but my wife loves it. She dings a 4 inch plate at 75 yards just about every time. Looking at the pattern on the plate I'm guessing it would be around an inch + at 100.

Of my 500 series rifles, I put a 541-S bbl. and trigger on a 581L action, and hunted with it for many years, it's very accurate.  To be honest, I really don't know "how" good it shoots, because I never shoot for groups with it.

Back in the olden days, I shot small bore postal league competition, with a 540XR and did pretty good at that time.  Some shooters in that club out moneyed me, (and many others) and almost always won our shoots by having all the latest expensive gear and top of the line Anschutz rifles.  Those days, I always "wished" I had the money for an Anschutz 54 target rifle!

BUT, it did make me feel better when I could beat any of them in the small bore pistol shoots!  My High Standard Victor was and still is, an absolute tack driver!

Always liked the looks and feel of the 540XR. The additional wood in front of the trigger guard made a nice support for offhand shooting, helped raise the rifle for kneeling and sitting while the grip felt perfect.

Several years ago, picked up a cherry 40XR (same style ISU position stock) that was rescued by a volunteer at CMP’s Anniston, Alabama site.

The horror stories he told on how those fine rifles were treated. They came to Anniston, dumped in a big crate. Volunteers were given ONE patch to clean a crate of rifles in prep for a basic function check. To get to the range, they were transported via a wagon with angle iron racks that often made a pair of scratches on the barrel.

Good grief,
That's as bad as child abuse.  I don't baby my guns but I'm careful not to ding'em up.
In the above posts it sounds like you and some others might have an interest in fun shoots??
Let me know if you do. :)

Lloyd, didn't mean to hijack your thread. :D

Bug. Agree with yah. When you got to the 10th rifle with your one patch, it pushed all that junk from the 1st nine rifles down the bore. Not to mention all the dings and scratches.

The 40XR looks NIB and came with irons and scope blocks. Don’t shoot it much, doesn’t qualify for silhouette, the BR shooters look at me funny when I suggest offhand while the rimfire communty has moved towards repeaters shooting steel at odd distances.

The seller had safes full of vintage target rifles, but reluctant to sell any.

Lloyd doesn't mind, at least we are talking about guns and shooting!!

These days, when I want to shoot a 22 that is very accurate and fun to shoot, this is what I shoot,

Melvin made it exactly the way I wanted it,

He makes the threaded actions ect...  Douglas premium bbls., bedded in his own designed kevlar/carbon fiber stocks, and it has a Jewel trigger...

Confound it DM, I've wanted one of those for at least 30 years, and you show up with a beauty.
I'm green with envy.
Yeah his actions are smaller Remington 700 actions, and I think he said they were much easier to bed than other types.
I love the fact that you have a left hand action.
Those guns can hold their own with many target rifles, and then you can carry it all day in the woods.
It's a true all purpose rifle.

i wish every thread on here that isnt gun related would be hijacked and turned into one. Used to be thats what greybeards was about. Shooting, hunting and the outdoors. As of late its more politics and religion. Add to that im going though a rough stretch right now and its pretty tough for me to shoot other then a few rounds in the back yard so i can live through those who are!

The membership here that is still left is aging. With aging comes slowing down and I am a perfect example of that. May not like the slowing part but it's inevitable. That means we are less and less able to enjoy what we used to do. Facts of life and the longer you live the less you can do. It isn't only on this forum that it is happening as I see it on other forums that I am a member of. Just like here a lot of members have disappeared and most of those that remain have slowed down in their activities plus there are few new members joining just like here.

I haven't been out shooting for almost two weeks. I have some projects that I would like to continue but my wife has a health issue, nothing life threatening, but something that requires two to deal with. Things are coming along nicely so I'll be back to shooting soon. She is more important than any shooting to me.

Sorry about your problems Lloyd.  But keep trying..
I had about given up shooting rifles until a member at RFC kinda dumped a Remington 581 (my favorite rifle of all time) in my lap at a good price.  He had turned it into a true target rifle.   So my interest in shooting perked up.
Lately, I quit posting in religion, and very little in politics.  This shooting thread you started takes my mind off that other stuff. :)

The earth and moon were aligned properly so I got to shoot Thursday. I hadn't shot the 22WMRs since I moved home, decided to remedy the situation. I took these toys with me.. CZ 452FS, Winchester Low Wall, Henry H001M and a Savage Striker pistol. The wind was very mild, unusual in Oregon Trail country. I use a friend's 1,000 yard range but shoot at 50 yards most of the time. I mainly wanted to smell some burnt gunpowder but the results were a pleasant surprise. Since the 22 WMR is considered to be a hunting round not target quality, I couldn't believe how well they shot. The best were tied, the CZ and Winchester. The Striker was almost as good, the Henry was about 1 1/4". The rest were ragged holes that could be covered with a nickel. All are scoped and I use a rest on a concrete bench. I don't always get good results, just happy to get to go! I hope to go tomorrow, might be a 7.62X39 show, not sure.

Thought i was getting the Encore .460 S&W dialed in after laying hands on some Hornady .45 XTP Mag bullets.   5 rounds, 3 one day and 2 a week later, grouped into 1 1/4 at 100 yards.   Then the next 5 walked down and over....    Thinking that there is now a scope issue.

I try to stay out of them too on here. Unless one of the idiot liberals speaks out or we get Christian bashing Christian bs. The other greybeards is a different story. I go guns blazing there. The socialists are given free reign to post there bs there and i thoroughly enjoy making fools out of them.

I have never seen a T-bolt in person.
That is a very interesting looking bolt.    Looks complicated.

Been getting to the range Sunday am before church with a friend. Did it today, always with a bullet launcher short or long.

Had a Ruger Mk3 out with the red dot re installed and got it sighted in at 25yds. After that 10 rounds slow fire with an S&W 14, 38 WC's for ammo.

All told 35 rounds fired, nothing like in the past BUT I got the MK3 dialed in. Now have to try it for 50 feet for the indoor league.

Some nice rifle pics posted, keep em coming. It's an art form that you don't see much of anymore, sad to say.
Hold still while I overthink this.

Yep, In 1963 I bought my Dad a Browning light 20 gauge auto which of course was Belgian made.
It was like a fine Swiss watch, so I know what you mean.

Are the new ones made in Japan??

The design of the Japanese Browning is identical to the Belgian one.
The engraving is no longer done by hand but other wise the guns are identical.

The Chinese ones functioned in the same manner but were obvious knock-offs.

The Remington ones from decades earlier differed a bit in the take-down method, and were not as finely finished.

That's NOT the case for T-bolts though...and that's what he asked about.
