Scratches in a BLR finish.............
« on: March 07, 2004, 02:25:34 PM »
What is the best way to take care of scratches in the shiney finish on the stock of a Browning BLR? They are just in the finish and not down into the wood. Thanks for any info.
Someday I'll figure out why I posted this in the Single Shot Forum, in the mean time can the Moderator move it to Gunsmithing Forum.

Steve E No problem with a cross post here. There are some very knowlegable people  on this forum that might be of help to you  just as if the wood was on a Browning single shot. You can post it on the lever action or gunsmithing forums as well. Have you tried a drop or two of Tru-Oil? Best of luck. Bob Ingman

I suspect the BLR finish is polyurethane and not much will stick to it.
If the finish is not thru to wood, Birchwood Casey Stock Sheen will polish the scratched area. When using such a polishing compound you are actually cutting the finish high spots down so the finish will be thinner. You can actually cut though the finish to bare wood so err on the conservative side.

Also try a paste wax such as Minn Wax paste. It will bring out the shine in minor scratches.
