HOW TO TURN A STEP LADDER INTO A PORTABLE HUNTING STAND

This tip is for folks way younger and slimmer than this old fat Graybeard.

You can use a cheap, portable ladder to get an easy vantage point while hunting public land.
Climbing stands, sticks and lightweight portable stands have come a long way over the years. But would just a step ladder do the trick?

See this do-it-yourself hunter break down how he uses a step ladder.

Watch the video below:

This strategy could be perfect for run-and-gun situations during a firearm season. For areas with large CRP fields and no trees, the ladder could be an easy way to get a good vantage point with little to no work.

The ladder strategy is cost-effective, light and extremely quiet. For around $50 and an hour of labor, this project is perfect for any ground hunters looking to get a little better view.

A padded seat could be a nice upgrade for the ladder, and would be an easy modification.

How would a person lean back on top of that thing??
After 15 minutes I'd climb down and sit down on the ground and lean back against the tree.

Me too Ron, well really I'd not go up in the first place. That's why my comment up top that it was for younger and slimmer folks than this old Graybeard.

Might be alright for a young fellow like him but sure not for us old folks.

Good initiative, not crazy about the judgment though. Never mind the discomfort, and the wobbliness, I'd be hard pressed to tote that into the woods quietly in the pre-dawn dark. Maybe if you used it with a tree seat and some straps to anchor the ladder to a tree, but then you're doubling the cost. This old guy likes a nice comfy seat so I can grab a nap before shooting hours start.

Well it seems like a neat idea
first thing out of the gate, but
the reality is that it's not stable
at all, not to mention how shaky
and unsafe trying to take a shot.
I've already had my go round with
iffy stands and platforms when I
was much younger and more
flexible and healthy.
I would have probably done that
at 19, probably did. But then I
also did some of that sitting on
a single board with 2 nails holding
it in kind of hunting
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

I will stick with my box blind, nice chair, Heat, carpet, nice shelf to rest my rifle on for shooting and if it rains well I can lean back and listen to the rain on the metal roof and take a nap.  I am too old to fall off a ladder backwards, might break something, the ground is way harder now than it was when I was 10. My box blind, This is a lot more comfortable than sitting out in the air on a cold wet morning. I can have my hot tea a nice sweet roll and enjoy watching the woods come to life. ;) ;) But to each his own, this is the way I like to hunt your way may be different.

I was thinking ya use the step ladder to strap a recliner to the tree.
