I was shaving tonight and I remembered when my uncle would shave he had a chrome thing with a handle and it had 4 rollers with leather wrapped in a spiral pattern you put your double wedge blade in it closed the lid turned the handle and you could sharpen your razor blades. do you remember them, they were made in the twenties and thirties. I see some vintage ones on ebay but none like he had.

I used an old safety razor up until about a year ago. Got tired of hunting the blades. But no, never saw a stropin device.

If you wont blades you can get the good double edge thin stainless on Ebay not too expensive. I bought some about a year ago Persona stainless double edge thin was just about 11.00 for a bulk pack of 100.

As a GI in the 1950s, I vcan recall when funds got tight for some guys, near the end of the month, they used to strop the blade on the fleshy part of the palm of their hand.

That is the meaty part between the little finger and the wrist.  Although I didn't do it regularly, I did it a couple times when out on extended FTXs..  It works..

I have seen some put a blade in a glass and press it down tight and move back and forth in the glass to sharpen. One of the best things to happen when I was in service in the fifties the Air force began paying twice a month so that helped some. The big problem with some they would gamble off their pay. When I was in a Pfc which I was when in Korea drew 82.50 per month and then my combat pay was 10.00 per month so I was getting 92.50 per month and things were really cheap at the Post Exchange.

Yes, I have seen the glass trick also..

While I was in the military, up to the mid 1960s, the Army still paid only once a month. ..And as you said, the only ones who had trouble with that, were those who just couldn't handle money very well.

Now days troops are getting paid somewhat better than we were back then.

I have a gadget that sharpens
safety razor blades. You clamp
the blade in the holder, and turn
the crank handle to turn the strop
part and the internal mechanism
flips the blade over alternate sides
every go round or so
The box says Kriss Kross Stropper

No way to post a picture unfortunately

Yeah, my dad had one of those. Probably 40s vintage. He also used the glass trick to get couple more shaves from a blade.
