« on: September 05, 2021, 09:30:18 AM »

My wife, and mother were on their way to the "Precious Moments" chapel in Missouri when my phone rang.
My neighbor Bill said: Are you watching the news. A plane just hit one of the World Trade towers. I hung up and turned the TV on Fox. A few minutes later, the second plane hit the other tower.
I called my wife and mother, and told them to come home.

When I'm home alone the TV is seldom on, so my wife called me from her school and told me to turn on the TV.
Her school is in the approach to Atlanta airport, and she said the secretary suddenly said, where are the planes that we normally hear.
So they ran to the media center and turned on the news.

On my way to work. Stopped and called my daughter and told her to turn on the TV after the second one hit. Saw cops guarding the bridge at St John's so when I got to work I told the water plant operator to lock the gates at the plant and call the cops if anyone tried to break through them. Then we all stood around watching the TV news for a while.

.
I was in my smithy, forging a a sign holder for a nearby Bible conference, when I heard the announcement on the radio.

Right away i wondered.."What is an airliner doing over Manhattan anyway?"  Remembering that it was in 1945, when a B25 bomber flew into th eEmpire State building...cancelling such flights over NY City

When they announced the second one...I harbored no doubts!

Another memorable event..the death of JFK!

I was stationed in Germany, had my family with me, and lived in the town, rather than in post quarters.
I arrived home from work that day..and took the elevator to our 4th floor apartment..  We were the only Americans in building.

As i got off the elevator Gisela, a teenage girl from the 3rd floor greeted  me with the news. "President Kennedy, ..kugel, gewesen  tot !"   (kugeo, gewesen, tot..= "bullet, pistol, dead"!   ... I could only utter.."please don't tell me!"

We troops of course, went on alert right away..half expecting Russian armored divisions to try to shoot the Fulda gap.

Fortunately, I had no doubts but come necessary, my country would care for my family..and take them home..

Driving on Madison avenue in Mankato MN on the way to pick up a coworker. I was listening the Tom Bernard on the KQ92 morning show. He  said a plane had hit the World trade center, and right away on the first one he said this was not an accident.

Although I'm still trying to figure out why this is in the music forum I will reply. I was sitting in my recliner with a cup of coffee in hand and watching to the coverage of the first plane and saw the second hit. Later on in the day I listened to the Albuquerque talking heads wringing their hands over what would happen if the city was attacked. Get real, dummies, I thought, terrorists go for big targets, not a podunk place like Albuquerque that half the people in the US think is a town in Mexico.

The Deacon did start with a musical selection, but the question was asked..so  answers followed..

For whatever reason I was at home
and just turned on the television and
all the stations had the 1st tower with
smoke billowing out, then the 2nd jet
hit live.  I sat there with my jaw on the
floor for about a minute, and jumped
up and gathered the gas cans I had
and headed for the station and filled
those and topped off my truck.
I took those home and thought for
about 30 seconds and ran down and
bought 2 more 5 gallon cans and
went back to the station, and a line
had formed and the price had been
raised like 75 cents or a dollar in the
time it took me to get back there.
It was nearly 5 dollars by that evening.
Later on the gubmint stepped in and
stopped the gougers
I can remember the lack of jet and
air traffic later, and the fighter jets
making a circuit low enough to see
the details of the belly of the plane

Lee Greenwood got a lot of airplay
There wasn't any hyphenated Americans
for a while after all that mess
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

As usual I turned on Fox news an have a cup of coffee . The first plane hit an  Fox  put  it  on live , they were thinking  must be  a accident until the 2nd plane hit .  Bush looked like a deer in the headlights when the message was whispered in his ear .

I was driving to school in Pine City , Minn. when the A.M. radio station morning show said a plane had hit a tower in New York, New York.
They then went to say speak  a plane had once hit the Empire State Building.
