Me And The NRA
« on: October 04, 2021, 09:51:47 AM »
Well I think I mentioned somewhere a little while back, that to join the local shooting club for access to their range I had to be an NRA member.
So after offering to join the GOA, or any other 2nd Amendment organization I was told it had to be the NRA.

So reluctantly, I called and joined for 3 years. Today I got a little bag with a "contribution letter with a pre-paid envelope, identifying me as "Stan" rather than Dan, and a "ultra cheesy" little pocket knife made in CHINA of all places.
But no membership card.

So I called these clowns, and told'em they got my name wrong, and no membership card.
She advised that was mailed separately, and I would be getting my "Stan" membership card, but she would send me a new Dan membership card to replace the first one.
When she asked me if I had any questions I said yes: "Why would a 2nd amendment organization send a new member a cheesy little pocket knife made in China of all places?
She said she would mention it to'em. I said: I just as soon not get anything as worthless as that from China. Send something from the United States, or nuthin at all.
Opinion I don't think was appreciated.

Wonder if Wayne LaPierres' 2 thousand dollar suits are made in China?

They've become an albatross unto themselves, and their loyalty blind  membership. The hierarchy has grown fat, corrupt, and inept.
THAT'S is why they're losing members.

Well, this shooting club was my only option. If that changes, my membership status for the future will change.

In the past the NRA has done some good things. I got a letter some time back asking me to extend my membership and they would send me a nice knife as a thank you so I extended my membership which by the way is already further out than I will live, does that mean I am a life member. anyway got the knife a week or so later, what a piece of junk you can get the same knife at a gun show 3 for a dollar cheap china junk. What I notice with the NRA every time there is some type of a crises here come the begging letters. I met Lapierre at a gun show in Tulsa several years ago did not even give me the time of day they have all the money they will get from me, like I said in the past they were great but they have become to big for their britches and no longer for the common man. Most all that they advertise in the mag. is way out of my price range

You have to do what you have to do sometimes to be able to do something else. It is the same for me. No NRA membership, no range membership. By the way, Deacon, a simple phone call or e-mail stops the letters and phone calls from the NRA. The last time my wife and I renewed we each took a blutooth speaker as out incentive gift. Our two oldest great grand children like them as they were the recipients of the membership largesse.

Just FYI, the reason some clubs require NRA membership is because they get there insurance through the NRA.  My club was that way too until our Treasurer found better insurance for less money.  Now we no longer require NRA membership.  If there is interest I will try to find out who we go through for insurance.  The NRA membership "requirement" has a % of members who must be NRA members but most clubs don't want to have to deal with a certain number of members being in the NRA so they make it mandatory.  This requirement is for the club to be an NRA "affiliate" which is required for insurance.

My club depends on NRA insurance snd our membership fee is quite reasonable. At first if you weren't a member you could join with a promise to become a member. It didn't take too long to find that many didn't keep there promise so membership was made mandatory.

That's the way it is at this club. I reluctantly joined for 3 years. At my age that may be plenty long enough, or I might find another place to shoot.

Don't think so. Not saying it didn't happen for sure but don't think it did. My last magazine he was still there. He was being paid too much to voluntarily step down, he would have to be fired I believe.

I need to look into this a bit deeper. I sure hope it's true.

There is no membership fee at my range, no NRA membership requirement and best of all the shooting bench is only 10 yards from my back door. It's never crowded either.

That is the way it used to be for me. I could shoot out my window, which I did often. Just had to make sure no one was pulling into my drive before I dropped the hammer. Had a bench setup also with a 100yd and 275yd targets. My favorite targets were all over the place and a good hit resulted in a tail flag salute...

That is the way my range is, I walk out my front door walk 50 yards out to my new shooting bench (Thanks Ironglow for the idea) walk down and hang a target and I am ready to shoot and if need be walk back to the reloading bench and and load up several rounds that are a little different and give them a try. I guess I paid my one time range fee when I wrote the check for my land nice to walk about a 150 yards and be deer hunting out of my new box blind. Dee you can always run up to My place in Oklahoma and shoot for free I will supply coffee and targets :) :)

So far this is the latest news I have found on the NRA and its leadership. It appears he is still there.

Wayne LaPierre is not gonna get off the NRA gravy train. With an annual salary of $5,111 000.0 that he refers to as a "compensation package", and a net worth of $20,000,000.00, why would he leave.

IF he did Google isn't aware. I also checked the NRA site and no word of his departure there. The article posted by wtxbadger is the latest I've found also.

3 NRA Director's have recently stepped down over the decision to NOT insure the volunteer Directors from suits at law and personal liability in pursuit of the work of the NRA, according to the Oct. '21 issue of "Firearms News".

Been a Life Member for over fifty years and it is required for membership in the club I belong to, but I don't send $ any more to help pay for those expensive suits and vacations. I sure wish there were better people running it, but since the board picks the candidates that run each year, and there is no way for alternative candidates to communicate with members, it isn't likely to change any time soon.

I still get their email requests, but no phone calls. Years ago I told the gal that called that the real problem wasn't congress, but was Lapier (sic). After we argued about that a bit, they took my name off the phone list.

Life memeber and i still send them more once in a while. WHY? I dont need them to shoot at my range. Its MY range but i send money to help fight to keep those guns in my house i shoot there. No other organization has the clout the nra has in washington PERIOD. Cant stand Lapierre but then i love america and cant stand the president of it too. My guess is the ones that claim they wont send money into the nra would just find another excuse not to send it if Lapierre was booted to the street. Some will scream the GOA does more. I send them money too. My right to own and shoot guns means enough to me to put aside petty disagreements. Anyone that thinks wed be better off today if the NRA didnt exist is smoking crack.

Well Dee, I’m glad you wised up and joined the NRA again. America needs the support. I’ve been a lifer for about 20 years.

And I don’t need a NRA membership to shoot at my range either. I just step out the back door and shoot.
