Crossword puzzles
« on: October 04, 2021, 02:16:40 PM »
.
I like to keep a crossword puzzle book conveniently nearby.  When faced with a few minutes wait for anything, I think it helps to keep the brain active, and vocabulary sharp.

However, these days the old crossword puzzle books are becoming hard to find.  It seems those things called "word search" puzzles are taking over.  They are very boring, since the words are printed out, and all the player does is locate trhe appropriate letters and circle them.  Very little mental exercise.

The only rteason I can think the crossword puzzles are in decline, may be because fewer people these days are competent spellers, so in the "word search" games, the words are already spelled out for them.

 Does that sound logical?

Not unreasonable! I find word searches to be painfully boring. Crosswords, criptoquip, and sudoku are my bally wick. Further, I have an inked up mess with the word search.

Many people today don't read at all
Many are illiterate and functional
illiterates mixed in with those.
Many are just plain lazy and need
to be entertained every waking hour.
Humans are no longer evolving into
more intelligent creatures like we
should be,  and instead are reverting
into jungle animals
The really sad part is that so many
revere and admire the animals that
people have become

Is this what we are seeing when we see people substitute letters for complete words, when working with computers and saying that... "u" equals "you"....  or "r" equals "are" ?

A lot of humans are basically lazy and take the easiest approach to everything including the massively tiring process of typing out complete words. Their motto seems to be cut every corner you can.  ::)  ;D

I am a bookworm and have been since I learned to read. I have never cared much for crossword puzzles but my wife likes them I can't count the number of puzzle books that she has used and then throw in the trash. Her one complaint when I suggested we switch to an internet version of out local paper was that she would lose the daily crossword puzzle. The only reason we continue with the paper which is mostly worthless is that it is our ONLY source of local news. TV news comes from Albuquerque and they don't even known we exist except for the weather report. We did switch to the e version. No more missed papers, no more filling the trash container with them, and my wife is doing perfectly well without her daily puzzle. Facebook seems to have filled the nicht for her.  :P

I love crossword puzzles.
I used to buy them at the grocery store but all they have now are the easy ones.
I used to order USA Today puzzles from Amazon but I've worked all of those.
so now I have to go to a book store to find something challenging.

Until recently, I had seen some of thaose big crossword books that were specifically Bible crosswords.  I was
going to purchase one, but time I got back to that store, they were all gone, and the true crossword puzzles dwindling in favor of "word search" books, which do nothing for me.
