Our Bow hunting season started a week or so ago here in Oklahoma but so far have nor heard any reports. My adult son and Fishing guide has been going but so far seen some but has not been able to get a shot. I have filled my feeders and hung my broadcaster feeder and set my game camera some does but no bucks on camera. I do not bow hunt so I wait till Black powder which starts in a little over a week and hope this covid thing I have has passed.

Too dang warm around here for me to start bow hunting.  Youth hunt was this weekend, but me and my daughter decided to wait until gun season, don't like having to deal with deer in 70 deg.  I usually get in a tree for the first time around Halloween and take some time off during rut, fun time to be in the woods.  Lots of deer around here these days, probably more than anytime in my life.

Have some good bucks on camera, the coolest pic is below.  Bachelor group in early August, haven't seen much of them since.

I'll second that my Wisconsin brother, to hot to hunt. I don't know how these southern hunters stand the bugs and hang their meat. Do you guys have walk in coolers? Next weekend sounds better, maybe a little frost in the northern swamps.

I have a large refrigerator in the garage that I removed all the trays and built a special hanging stand to fit inside. I hunt on my own property so if I get one by the time I have it up to the house my son is here and he skins it removes the back straps and quarters it and I hang it in the Ref. to cool down for 4 days then I process it. so far it has worked out great. My son owned a state inspected meet processing plant and during deer season it was nothing for him to process 5 or 6 hundred deer a season.

I am lucky to have a son to help his old dad

. . . I don't know how these southern hunters stand the bugs and hang their meat. Do you guys have walk in coolers? . .
Nothing other than the standard Coleman/Igloo cooler

Getting my deer skinned and quartered
and on ice ASAP is mandatory here to
avoid spoilage. I'll either bone it out
when I get it here, or put it straight in
the deep freeze to deal with at another
time
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

This.  I've never hung a deer, other than to skin it.

To me, getting the skin off without
making a hatchet job of it is the
hard part. After that it's just minutes
to the big freezer bags and cooler

Look up using a rock and rope to pull the skin off with a truck.

I dont start  deer hunting  until  after  Christmas,  an thats still several weeks before the rut sets in   here in Bama  , its  usually  cold enough by then  to deter any  bugs .

My buddy shot this one a few minutes after this picture. He was sitting in the ladder stand you see in the background. He measured about 130 inches.

Nice buck, but if that's 130" I've been measuring them all wrong...

I've done that a couple of times before.
I don't really care for it
Maybe on a cold stiff carcass since
it's twice as hard to skin cold

[/quote]   A local deer processor here does that technique a little different . He  ties the rope off and winches the whole  deer straight up .   doesnt  use alot  of  space or get sideways like  pulling with a truck   .

They start gun season too early here in Oregon. First part of Oct. Usually too warm, but this has been a cool one so far. I have only been once because we've been in the middle of moving. It runs through Nov. 5, so plenty of time left. I'm seeing more deer this year where I hunt than last year, because of the fires we had last summer (Over 400,000 acres) they are more concentrated.

Well it has happened. I was sitting in my box blind and at 6:15 pm today, a nice young doe hopped the fence and began feeding at the feeder got everything ready watched her through the scope till she turned for a good shot placement, Touched the smoke pole off and when the smoke finally cleared she was on the ground, I would say she is in the 125-135 lb. range Now she is hanging in the cooler ready to be processed in a couple days. Yes I know you wont pictures but I don't know how to post pictures from my phone, I need to have a grand child come and show me how.

Early season dumbass hunter not paying attention. Walked across the pasture failing to see the two deer before they snorted at 50 yds.

Watched 2 more and a bunch of turkeys. 2nd batch of turkeys made a huge racket taking roost in the trees.

The deer are very much unimpressed with the clover patch.

Saw a monster buck 2 days ago. Just out of range so did not shoot or even get increased heart rate. I must be getting old. Probably 40 yds and 30 is my limit with a bow. More than likely could have killed him...

Good job. Doing a lot of things right to get close to the big ones.

I’m definitely getting older. Watching deer vs pulling the trigger. Tried taking a picture last year. The iPhone made that camera like shutter sound.

Deer pegged the source immediately. Looked right in the window of the blind and ran off. Told myself somewhat sarcastically...that went well.

Saw a questionable buck a couple
of days ago. Could have easily taken
it, but since we have the trophy antler
laws, I had to let it pass by.
Saw a really "nice " buck the next AM
but it was moving too fast through the
saplings for a sure rifle shot
Maybe next time

Been dog hunting this last week. Doing okay having caught 4 dogs so far. Bunch of good chases. Yet to fire but seen a passel of deer at various distances and speeds.

Watched a pack of Walkers chase a doe yesterday. At a easy lope, she led them in circles, loosing dogs every lap in the hardwoods. With the last dog about 10 foot behind her, she stopped and turned around facing the dog with her head down.

Guess the dog thought WHOA cuz he immediately stopped, sat down and just looked at the deer. They stayed like that, dog sitting, deer standing just watching each other till more dogs showed up.

Only then did the doe take off with the dog resuming his role. Never seen that before. Looked like the doe was having sport with the dogs.

Dog hunting is how I started out , took me a while to understand all I was doing was driving the deer off my place to be shot by other hunters .
