More products and adventures in my grandson's forge..
« on: October 22, 2021, 12:30:33 PM »
  .

He took delivery of 2-3 cords of wood for his fireplace.  When he gets a new load of wood, he sorts it through.
He found some pieces of spalted maple..he will run them through his stabalizer process..and they will pay for his firewood a couple times over.

  Below are a couple items he made lately;

   1) Executive promotion gift pens..Hinduran rosewood burl

  2) Santoku chef knife w/ buckeye burl handle

  3) Piece of spalted maple wood

  4) Four hunting blades nearly finished..ready to be fitted with exotic, stabalized wood handles.

Note how his signature is etched into each blade ..

They're all works of art, and I especially like that chef knife.

But, the way I tremble, I'd be a danger to myself if I had it. :)

Bug.. That chef knife was made for an associate of my grandson, who knows his work...valued at $350, he traded for that value in exotic woods.
Another recent creation by grandson.  Like myself, he prefers high carbon steel.  He has pre-etched this blade, taking away the threat of oxidation, which is gone or significantly reduced.
He makes wonderfully hand fitting handles..some tailored to fit the client..

..Didn't ask what wood he stabilized for this blade, I didn't ask..but it is obviously burl wood.  He has refired my desire to create some blades once more, I may just start some Puukko blades..

Photo taken on the firewood pile behind his smithy...you can see where he sometimes gets shots at foxes, coyotes
or deer...right in his own back yard ..

Saturday was an eventful day in my grandson's smithy.  He had two Forged-in-Fire champions in his shop, working with him.
He works regularly with champ Walt Baranowski, and he and another champ came to my grandson's shop for a special reason.
My grandson recently purchased a heat treating oven of long capacity, and the two guys were working on a new, novel sword, so they used his oven.
...Seems that somewhere during the process they laid the sword o the concete floor while it was quite hot, so now he has a sword brand on his floor.  Oh well, chalk it up to smithy experiences.

Guess I'l work with him at least one day this week..

Forged in fire was a favorite of me and Nancy.
That’s pretty neat that they came to use his shop.
