NYT Video Takes a Blowtorch to Blue States

Matt Vespa, Nov. 24, 2021

How did this ever get published? Seriously, this is a video that would get the New York Times' human resources department involved. The liberal media has always bashed red states for being backward, poverty-ridden county bumpkin meccas. They hate these people. It's in keeping with the progressive psyche. So, it's a bit shocking that this video was made because it lobs a hand grenade into the tent—and kills everything inside. Who's to blame for the inequality crisis in America? Well, I've always thought this issue was overblown by the left, but if we're going to talk about it—it's blue states. It's liberal hypocrisy. That's exactly what this video says. It also says that blue states are on many levels "the problem."

Video journalist Johnny Harris and economic writer for the NYT editorial board, Binyamin Appelbaum, analyze states where Democrats have all the power. And as we've always known, they've discovered they're garbage (via The Blaze):

Harris teamed up with Times editorial board writer Binyamin Appelbaum to examine why famously liberal states — such as New York, California, and Washington — struggle to advance the progressive policies despite little to no Republican opposition.

They focused on three core initiatives of the Democratic Party platform: affordable housing, economic equality, and educational opportunity. And in the end, they discovered that "liberal hypocrisy," not Republican opposition, "is fueling American inequality" and that things are actually much worse in blue states than they are in red.

"In key respects, many blue states are actually doing worse than red states," the journalists noted in a written report accompanying the video. "It is in the blue states where affordable housing is often hardest to find, there are some of the most acute disparities in education funding and economic inequality is increasing most quickly."

"Blue states are the problem," Applebaum, who covers economics and business for the Times, exclaimed.

"Blue states are where the housing crisis is located. Blue states are where the disparities in education funding are the most dramatic. Blue states are the places where tens of thousands of homeless people are living on the streets. Blue states are the places where economic inequality is increasing most quickly in this country. This is not a problem of not doing well enough; it is a situation where blue states are the problem," he added.

At one point, Harris noted that "affluent liberals tend to be really good at showing up at the marches and talking about how they love equality, [and] at putting signs in their lawns saying, 'All are welcome here.'"

"But by their actions," he continued, "What they are actually saying is, 'Yes, we believe in these ideals, just not in my backyard.'"

It's nothing that isn't new. I'm sure a great deal of you already knew about the liberal hypocrisy that's laid on thick when it comes to these issues. White, college-educated liberals are the most ideologically rigid. They do show up at the marches, but they want no part of nonwhites coming too close to their places of comfort. It's all virtue signaling. Again, you know this, but the most shocking part about this whole story and video is that the NYT even published it at all. It wrecks the oasis that liberals have constructed in their own minds.

[Personal Note:  It's the DEMOCRATS and their politics of LYING to their People (to everyone really, but Republicans see through their crap, but the bloviating, lacky, agenda driven Media don't report fair or balanced "news", only cover for the Left's PROPAGANDA.]

No surprise here..  I live in a 'blue' state and have known of this hypocrisy for years!

My first acquaintance with the 'south' was in 1955, as a young soldier.  Yes, Jim Crow was still strong then, but there was change in the air.
I went back north, and as life would have it, I went back south late 1960s and early 1970s, and found a real change.  It seems that except for a few stubborn people, the south accepted the civil rights drive, and moved along with it.
Meanwhile, it seems that except for a few 'celebrities of color', the liberal "movers and shakers" want to put forth the civil rights agenda..much like their environmental 'sacrifices'...good for thee, but not for me".

"Gated communities"...and then there are "others"...

One large difference to start with..  The south was alredy integrated in a way, since populations were already living amongst one another..throughout the states..while in the north, it would seem most blacks are located in
the cities..probably diue to migrations both pre and post civil war..
It remains pretty much that way, and I think I can safely say that those who choose to move to rural areas, are judged by their character rather than color.

Big difference between urban/rural, left/right..Just the usual leftist hypocrisy..  (Just my 2 cents, take it or trash it !)
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)

Good post, and it kept me from a lot of typing in a feeble attempt of my own to address the OP. :)

Here in the north, there is by demographics..city vs country situation, a defacto segregation going on.

For instance,in our small hamlet, there is one black, middle aged single lady living..that's all.  She happens to
be a member of my church, and is welcomed with no problems.

Some of her city relations visit at times, but not often.  She has the Christian view on life and that, along with exposed country style living, apparently doesn't make them comfortable enough to stay.

In the affluent communities surrounding the distant city, it appears that segregation is maintained by the financial barriers.

It appears those wealthy folks campaign for all kinds of housing etc., for the "downtrodden", but  don't let it happen in their back yard.
