I’d like it to be a bit colder here. Maybe not that cold though.

I have been in a fair number of Minnesota winters with sub -30  but when it his sub -40 things change more than one can think; I have only gone for a walk in one -50 winter and that noticeably colder than -40.
You just dress warmer and make darn sure you have clothes to do so.

Back many years ago, when my sister and brother-in-law, with their family lived out Badger Rd, from Fairbanks,
I believe I can recall them saying that at times, in the sloughs along the Chena River..temps would sometimes bump on -70 F.

Well, its 25 degrees right now, and it usually gets below zero several times every winter here, but not like Alaska.

I am right there with Bugeye on temperatures. The high here yesterday was 73 with little wind and was a very nice day. High today is supposed to be 48 and the wind is currently 17 mph which make it quite a change for a geezer like me. I won't spend much time outside today unless the wind quits.

It seldom drops to 0 here although I have seen 10 below one time and hope to never see it that cold again.

I put 2 starters on my dad’s car. Burned one up. It was 18 below and put them on in a parking lot. Luckily it was a standard and I pulled that thing for a mile before it finally started. Thought the muffler was gonna blow off from the backfires from being flooded.

That blown muffler bit brings back memories.  When I was stationed in Germany (62-65) we used to have "Alerts"
When the siren went off (usually about 2AM), we were expected to take full gear, hitthe motor pool and be on the road to a disclosed form up station..ready to move & fighhjt.

That was because we were not sure but what Old Khruschev may decide to test our mettle across the Rhine.

Well, we had made it to our rendezvous area and were on the way back to post.  I was riding with my buddy Ken,  from Vermont, in th e 5-ton wrecker.

Now, here's whythe natives sometimes resent those young, crazy GIs..  We were coming down off a mountain with that old gas engined truck (602 cu in continental)..
Villages are always at the foot of the mountain, and Ken flicks off the switch about half way down..then flips it on again in th elittle village at the foot of the mountain.  ..Don't know if we broke any windows...

Well, the company eight-ball was behind us in a 5 ton tractor.  He thought it was pretty cool, so next down mountain he did the same..

Poor guy didn't check..but the company commander had his driver racing ahead to check the convoy in his M151 Jeep, and was right beside that tractor when the boom took place

Ah, starters, it is odd, or seems that way, that they so often go out in the winter.

Put a few in sub-zero my self but now, not sure now if I would do it my self; I have a much better jack now, rather than a bumper-jack a chunk of wood to keep the car off of you if it falls but the faith in God was the most important part.

Back in the nineties and oughts we wold have had sub-zero now already, rather than the forties and fifties we had till yesterday; it is 4 degrees now and one thing I loathe is a sudden change in temps. either up or down.
There is an inch or so of snow on the ground and the ground is not frozen which is good if the below average temps. that are forcasted hit in January.
My water softener froze and burst last winter, which makes no sense as I already had a heater in the cellar, but I did not replace it so I do not have to worry, or spend money , about a heater in the cellar any more.

It was backin 1961..I had just purchased a cherry 1948 Plymouth 4-door classic that fall.  Winter set in, and that day we had the national contiguous low at -41 F..  Well those Chryslers from the 40s and 50s, never were great starters on cold days..so that was no exception.  had to use it..and it wouldn't start.
Thinking to thin the oil a bit.  So I got out a Bernzomatic..planning heating th eoil pan indirectly.

My mistake..after having cranked the engine somewhat,I passed the running Bernsomatic past the discharging battery..  BOOM!  I had to get a fresh haircut..because on one side, most of my hair was burned/melted off!  ;D ;D

The story’s admitting fault are the best. We are all guilty.
Caught my head on fire checking for spark on a flooded tractor with the plug out. Knew I was in trouble when I saw the spark that I thought was not there.
