Who has a flashlight attached to their pistol ?
« on: December 16, 2021, 09:54:36 AM »
I put one on my Sig compact, it extends about a 3/8 of an inch passed the muzzle. I put a couple of mags through it and it didn’t seem to harm it any.

My grandson had one attached to his M4 and/or his Mossberg 500, as he kicked in doors to "safe houses" in Iraq !

My youngest son runs one on his no longer stock Glock 23. He has a Holosite, a flashlight, a Timney trigger, and iron sights that co-witness with the Holosight.

just an opinion for what its worth and kind of a hypocritical one at that because i do have lights on my home defense shotguns. My house isnt exactly pick black at night. Theres a streetlight on the dead-end road that keeps it lit enough to see people. I always figured a light turned on just gives a perp a target to shoot at. My home defense pistols have night sights. Preferably just a front night sight. Like i said there on my shotguns and a couple ar15s but when i practice with them i dont use the flashlights. There just there if i feel a need. I like home defense handguns to be simple with no switches or safetys to worry about when shtf. But that said i dont have kids in the house. Its just me and the wife laying next to me so if your in my house your a target plain and simple. Maybe if i lived in a high crime area id think different but truthfully i havent even locked my doors in 40 years and if you walk in my garage theres keys in all the vehicles. I dont know of a single neighbor that locks there doors.

With these new brilliant lights, if I ever went to coon hunting again, I woild surely mount one on my .22 !

Probably the flashlight with a red dot on the rifle..would have more 1 shot drop outs..

My house has indirect light through out, so its not all that dark. Front and back yard the same.
I used to run night sights on my pistols, but but since I no longer carry autos I don't. If they get past Rufus, and my locked doors, it won't be much of a shot to put'em out of business the way my house is arranged and lit.
Linda is a light sleeper, and I have a plan for such foolishness.

If I have to go outside, it'll only be to give Rufus a hand, and my old SWAT shotgun, and my rifle both have Streamlight TacLight 750 lumins on them.

I too just have a light on my shotgun and AR. I find a light on a pistol makes it to bulky, and wouldn't carry a gun with a light on it for that reason. I feel night sights on a pistol are good enough.

My new Sig is a P320. It was in over stock not sold. Go they gave me a really good deal on it. It besides my AR are the only guns I have with a picatinny rail mount on them. I read in a gun magazine that to avoid being the target if they fire at that flashlight. You hold the handgun away from your body and snap it back to fire. Or just hold the flashlight in one hand and the pistol in the other. But you wouldn’t have a free hand if you needed it.

.
Those ultra bright Surefire lights worked well in the terrorists dark "safe houses" in Iraq..because by leading
with  gun, that bright light helped to blind any killers hiding in there....  Just stick the gun around the corner of the door...and the purple rods of their retinas are burned out for a few minutes.

it also gives them a target to dump a mag at. its another reason i dont care for them on handguns. on my shotgun and ars i have pressure pads so i can quickly turn it on and look and turn it off. Now i do have a kimber 1911 with a crimson trace laser that has a pressure pad. Im sure someone makes one for a flashlight but ive never personaly seen one.

Didn't work that way, according to my grandson and the guys he served with....and of course, the lights were also often accompanied with a grenade..

Sure doesn't. Ultra bright lights has always worked well.
Back in the day we used'em effectively when they were far less compact.

well my take on it this. Im not a swat team or a 6 man squad clearing a strange building. Im alone or with my wife. I was taught in survival training that if i was outnumbered or that was even a possibility to stay concealed and stay low. its a natural tendency for someone shooting to shoot about 3-4 feet off the ground and its a natural tendency to shoot at light or movement. Cover and stealth are your best friends when your standing alone. I know my home. I dont need a flashlight to navigate it. thats one advantage i have over the perp stumbling around in the dark or stupid enough to flash around a flashlight and give me a target. Granted this way of thinking came from the 70s when lights werent used much and werent really made small enough for a handgun and mostly referred to handheld flashlights but logic would tell me it still applies. But to each there own i guess.
