Loads for 45-70

I got a deal on a zip lock bag of 45-70 ammo but I don't know what the load is in the cartridge.  I shoot a Remington Rolling Block so I can't shoot just any load.
 I can pull the loads easy enough but is there any way to determine the brand /type of powder ? Would it be best to trash the old and use new powder ?  Thanks

No not really. About the only powder you could reasonably identify based on looks are the DOT powders such as red dot, blue dot, green dot, 700X and such. Even then you would not be able to be certain that some other powder wasn't mixed in with them.

I DO NOT and WILL NOT fire reloaded ammo unless I personally loaded it. I just refuse to shoot ammo reloaded by another person.

Cast or Jacketed Bullets? in the Rnds You have?
