I just thought I had a lot of tumble weeds.
« on: December 18, 2021, 12:39:56 PM »
I drove north from my home today after lunch and about 3 miles up the road the tumble weeds were piled up out onto the pavement. Another mile and I jogged west a mile to another road (had to as the road I was traveling ended) and turned north again. The tumble weeds were stacked up against the west fence until it was leaning over to the east about a foot and and a half out of plumb and this continued for several miles until I turned west again. I don't know how long that fence has been standing but it's been a lot of years with no lean until this year. We finally had a wet for here summer and weeds of all kinds have thrived.

There were area roads south of here that were closed until the tumble weeds could be moved.

Where I live that'd require a lot of molasses.

yup but we have to navigate 2 feet of snow on the roads some days. I laughed when i was at great lakes naval base recovering. I saw a 6 inch snow storm shut down the whole town and the news said it shut down chicago. Heck thats a sprinkle up here. Barely enough to justifying snowblowing the driveway.

Not just west but for a long way east. I am around 60 miles as the crow flies east of the Pecos and we have plenty of them. I grew up about a 100 miles east of where I live now on the eastern edge of the caprock and they are plentiful there. I have no idea just how far to the east of the caprock you have to go before being out of them. Probably to the piney woods of east Texas.

Wichita Falls.. There was an old Army air training base there, as I recall.  Then it was just south of there , where Mcmurtry located his story of "The Last Picture show", I believe..
