It may not fit with the narrative but as I recall Trump appointed Dejoy as the head of USPS and he has stated he was going to slow the mail down. He has been true to his word!
Ahhh, of course its Trumps fault. The post office has been run poorly for decades. The fact is the government should have nothing to do with moving our mail. Its nothing but a big inefficient bureaucracy. In 2020 there was a 9.2 billion loss, after total revenues increased 2 billion. Last year they hired 163, 257 new employees. Might have something to do with the lavish salaries and benefits they pay out also. The post master general makes more than a US 4 star general at $303, 460. If this was a private company they would have been bankrupt years ago. There just isn't any incentive to make money when you have a federal government keeping you afloat.
The USPS employees get to participate in the federal civil service retirement system, the federal employees retirement system, and the federal employee health benefits program. Its no wonder that labor costs are over three quarters of the USPS's total expenses.
Just a couple weeks ago, I had a package that was to be delivered. I got a note in my box saying they couldn't deliver because of a car in my driveway. The driver said they are not allowed to back up more than 50 feet. I guess they can't walk more than 50 feet either, because that was what the distance was.
