Dried (?) Peanut butter
« on: January 04, 2022, 08:07:21 PM »
Last jar I'd bought was pretty good
as usual, that is until I got down to
the last inch or so in the jar.
It's nearly too hard to scoop out.
I've had a lot of peanut butter over
the years, and I can't remember
ever having any harden or get
dried or whatever happened to
this particular jar.
If nothing else, there's always a
wee bit of peanut oil in the bottom
with the last few bits.

Anybody encounter this problem?
New one on me, and I'm getting to
the point I've seen a good bit of
strangeness

ive seen some genric brands that had oil on the top of them so im guessing the oil seperates from the rest of it if left setting to long. Had some a couple time that i had to stir when opening the jar.

Who here can remember when every new jar of peanut butter had 1/2 an inch of oil on top, that had to be mixed in before using?

If you can, you must be as old as I am.  ;)   ;D

I remembe fifty years or so back when that became the latest thing for foo-foo peanut butter brands; even then they called it -- old style -- peanut butter.

Yep. I’ve had some of that old style. Butt. In my case. It was just old...

If it's a plastic jar, check for a crack, or small hole.

Ranger, it's your neighbor aiming gamma rays at your house.
It usually shows up in your peanut butter before it affects your brain.

You need to get out quickly.

They still make it like that, it's what we get.  Forget what it's called, but if you look for it on the shelf, it's obvious.

Peanut butter got kinda scarce around
here for a few weeks. I usually have a
jar going and one in the cabinet, but
I'm wondering if I shouldn't up my
inventory

Here it's called "natural" peanut butter, it doesn't have the stuff that keeps the oil in suspension and must be stirred every time its used.     But I'll take JIF anytime.

I have a larder where I rotate stock. Been doing it for years. If I can I catch sales. Peanut butter is a staple. Coffee, tuna, noodles, rice, tomato paste, flour, sugar, salt, etc. I don’t stock cooking oil as it degrades too fast butt buy more well before I’m out
