magazine capacity?
« on: January 05, 2022, 09:31:43 AM »
I see that Mossberg is advertising a "Pro Snow Goose" 12 gauge that holds 13 shells.
I always thought for hunting migratory birds a pump or auto shotgun could only hold 1 in the chamber & 2 in the magazine.
Did I miss a law change somewhere along the line?
Thanks.

No such restrictions for hunting snow geese. They are grossly over populated and so you can put all you want in the magazine while hunting them. You better not have any other kinda goose or duck in the bag tho.

I knew the Snow geese were ruining habitat because of over population, but I didn't know there wasn't a limit.

Yup no bag limit and no magazine limit. Pretty much no limits period on how to take snow geese these days. Heck ya might could even use a punt gun, not sure, but ya might could.

Well, I guess if I liked being cold, sometimes wet and cold, and like to eat goose (which I don't), I would be ecstatic.
But I don't.  :(

three game animals i never cared for are woodcock, goose and duck of any kind.  Never really hunted just for them. When the oportunity presented itself id shoot them and give them to dad. Hed eat anything.

You can cook duck with "Shake and Bake" for pork and its not bad.
However, the effort required to shoot the duck isn't appealing to me.

Not a fan of wild or tame turkey either. I found the wild version, excessively dry, and the bottled version unnecessarily warm.

When I first moved to Alaska in the early 70's, times were pretty lean out in the bush.  One day I saw a flock of sno geese coming and I had a 5mm Rem. Mag. in my hands.  When they got to me, about a hundreds yards up, I picked one out, led it a bit and fired.

The bullet hit in the center of the chest and down it came.

We thought it was pretty good eatin, at that supper!  lol

only way i will eat wild turkey is if you bone it out cut it into strips batter and fry it then put it in cream of mushroom soup and put it on noodles or mashed potatoes. Whole wild turkeys baked suck. As to the bottled stuff i like my whiskey clear.

Yes, BUT snow geese are an exception to those rules. Look it up.

I had a North Dakota farmer tell me that the only way to get in trouble hunting Snow Geese, was to have one fall off the load of your pickup. You could be ticketed for littering.

Yes, a little reading found that the United States government fish and game have so regulated water foul hunting, and made licensing so expensive, that many hunters have quit hunting water foul.

Resulting in overpopulation, and self destruction of habitat.
