The NCAA seems to be very strident about team names...boo hoo...

They put pressure on teams that have (or had) politically incorrect names.. teams like the Braves, Chiefs, or Indians..were hammered unmercifully..

So where is the home office of the NCAA located?  It is located in  INDIAN-apolis, INDIAN-a.

BTW..I have heard no whining coming from them. over the Vikings .

Then too; the NCAA seems reluctant to take up the case for Lions, Jaguars or Penguins...

Well, the Vikings were whites so no harm, no foul. Only darker skinned people can feel intimidated by a team name. In my politically uncorrect uneduacated mind I always thought the names were a sign of respect for the so named. Dumb ol' me.

Yea, I felt the same way when I discovered most of the helicopters were named after Indian tribes, ie the Iroquois, Apache, Chinook, Black Hawk etc.  But give these lefties some time, that too will change. https://www.defense.gov/News/Inside-DOD/Blog/Article/2052989/why-army-helicopters-have-native-american-names/

Yeah, what about Trojans, Spartans, Pirates.  I guess all are white.  I would think Braves, Warriers, or Chiefs would not be a problem.  They are all native American fighting names.  Redskins, I might see as offensive, but it was not back in the 1930's when they asked some native Americans.  They thought it honored them.

How many states are named after American Indian tribes.  Alabama is where I live, then there is Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, North and South Dakota, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Utah, Nevada?, Missouri, Minnesota, Alaska?, Hawaii?.  ? means maybe native language, don't know.  Good grief, are we going to have to change all those names?

I could be a matter of time before PETA groups want to rename mascots that are named after animals, like birds of prey, or fierce carnivores.

The NCAA is college, the team names given are names I mostly associate with professional ball. Guess I can't see the connection unless in some places those names were for college teams also that I am just not aware of.

The NCAA is right into the politically correct sports team names..harassing those who use Indian names

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Native_American_mascot_decision

The Irony I was pointing out, is that the NCAA is headquartered in Indianapolis Indiana .

I think some colleges have changed their mascots.  Florida State had got some hassle about the Seminole mascot.  Smaller colleges have changed their mascots.

North Dakota went from the Fighting Sioux to the Fighting Hawks. When it was under discussion I was told by a tribe member that most of them had no problem with the name and would have been fine with them if it was not changed. Even with the tribes it was pure politics.

The Indians I know from around here, have no problem with the mascots or terms.

It seems likely that the only ones who have gotten upset about the terms, were just the far left
members. ..But no harm, since most of them reject the term "Indian" anyway, insisting upon being referred to as "native American"..

Mostly I suspect it is as usual..regular lefties of all stripe, just stirring up more trouble..

(insisting upon being referred to as "native American")

That term is incorrect. There are no native Americans according to science. Everyone on this continent came from another so "first American" would be correct to me and I refuse to use the the term "native". If some get their undies in a wad over it all I can say is "get over it, you are not special, just the first".

I think there is way too much time on some folks hands...so they start verbal combat over semantics.

Frankly, I don't care what anybody wants to call themselves... I'll call them "corn chowder" if they wish..just so they stay with one term, and don't go jumping around.
