Thinking for yourself- is that over and done with?

I don't have cable or satellite
Apparently a new drama/soap opera
about modern day western life is going
on. I talked to a sibling about it yesterday
and I was told pretty much what I've been
seeing and hearing. A bunch of folks are
taken with a cowboy yee haw fad and
dressing the part. I've been asked and messaged -
" Hey- you wear hats and boots and jeans
don't you? Do you wear a big belt buckle?
Don't you have a carhartt vest and coat? What
color? Do you have a lasso? Do you still have a
saddle? You have a piece of land don't you?
Do you have horses? " Blah blah blah yak yak!

I understand that hats and carhartt outerwear
and such are selling around here about as fast
as primers (almost)

Have we got to where we need television and
movies to set trends for us to pattern our lives
after?  As I was saying to my relative, at least
the number of people wanting to be rap stars
and DJ'S and such is reduced by however many
now want to be rootin' tootin' cow punchin'

I started wearing boots, and hats, (skipped the big buckels) in the 50s. There's no telling how many times I've been in and out of style. I also like the Twisted X mocs, and occasionally wear them.

cowboy hats and boots? Nope not me. But i spent my life as a lineman and we ALL wore carharts. Nothing else holds up to hard work like them or combines wear with warmth in the winter. We had summer carharts fall carharts and winter  carharts and even retired ive got a zippered hoodie, a winter jacket and probably a half a dozen pairs of there pants. I wear them as much as i wear jeans. but for boots its a pair of lace up work boots and for a hat its a ball cap. You might see a pair of cowboy boots occasionally up here but rarely a cowboy hat.

Not many wanna-be cowboys in my area. Although a number that do wear pointy toed cowboy boots. I worked with a guy who always wore the pointy toe cowboy boots, and when steel toes became the law he found a pair of steel toed pointy cowboy boots to wear. His nick name was "Cowboy", and he never owned a horse. Oh, and he wore the big belt buckle also.  Never understood the draw to wanting to be associated as a cowboy, unless you were one. 

I always wore carhartt clothing, not to fit in with any crowd, but for work purposes.  Although I won't be buying carhartt brand anymore since they became woke and associated themselves with the vaccine mandate wacko's

Cowboy boots are comfortable. Been wearing since them I was a kid and also wore levi's up until they decided to move offshore and raise their prices. That is when I switched to wrangler slim fit jeans and still wear those. I grew up a clodhopper but we raised some cows along with crops. That didn't make me a cowboy, just some one that had to work with them. Our dress suited what got the job done the best and lasted the longest. I see no difference in today's and yestertyear's drugstore cowboys. I really don't care what how anyone dresses as long as they are clean and don't care about their ratio of cattle owned or not. It is called freedom to choose.

I guess some people have to continually look for faults in others even if it is just in their chosen style of dress. How they dress costs you nothing and really doesn't concern anyone but the person wearing their personal choice in clothing. Lighten up and enjoy life while you can.

Like Lloyd I ran up and down highline poles for a living but only for a few years. When I changed my occupation I threw those 16" lace up lineman's boots away and swore I would never own another pair of lace up work boots ever again and have stuck to that promise.

i still have my last pair of 16 inch wesco's there probably near 20 years old and still feel like putting on a pair of hushpuppy shoes. They put any redwings ive had to shame. My feet and toes and especially the ankle i had replaced are beat up from years of climbing and i just cant stand loose fitting slip on boots like cowboy boots or slip on work boots. I need a boot that has some support.  If im to sore to lace up a good set of boots ill wear sneakers. If you doubt it walk 5 miles in a pair of slip ons then try a good pair of lace ups. Im not sitting on a horse all day letting him do the work. Now that said i prefer a 10 inch boot anymore. No need for the tall ones.

I personally don't care what anyone wears
or what they look like as long as I don't
have to look at them or hear them.
Like the title says, I was commenting on
people in 2022 not being able to think for
themselves and needing to adopt a persona
and have others look at them and acknowledge
them, whether it be a pretend cowhand, or a
bulldyke with a buzz cut and wearing the
lumberjack look. People like that want me
and everyone else to notice them and need
validation and approval. I just happened to
be using the 2022 faux cowhand as one
example of people needing to garner a
a persona from the media and not be
themselves ( if they even know what that
may be)

Well, Ranger, people have been dressing to follow fads as long as I can remember. Does your wife (I'm assuming you are married or have been) ever buy clothes because hers are out of style? Perfect example there. It's always been a follow the herd kind of thing to dress alike and especially for younger people. There are just a lot more people for you to look at now and more people are comfortable with being weirdos. Thank social media and TV, especially TV directed toward teens for this.

I am in charge of my eyes and hearing and can choose not to look at or hear anything I find foolish or offensive with ease. Ignoring the foolish is easy.

What gets me is the 5' tall gal that is 2 ax handles wide in the butt dressed in skin tight leggings waddling along in front of me. I want to ask her if she ever looks in a full length mirror but I just quickly look at something else.

Well, maybe door to door milk sales will come back, and these women with hindquarters can pull the wagons. Or a cotton sack.
