BBC US & Canada News - 14 hours ago

A company that made a rifle used in one of the US's deadliest school shootings has settled with the families of victims for $73m (£53.9m).

The settlement from Remington Arms comes in response to a lawsuit brought by the families of nine of 26 victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre.

The case marks the first time a gun-maker has faced liability for a mass shooting.

Until now, the industry had immunity from litigation.

Each family will receive a share of the settlement, but other details of the deal were not disclosed.

Josh Koskoff, a lawyer representing the families of victims, said they were delighted by the outcome because their focus was on "preventing the next Sandy Hook".

I have great empathy for those who lost loved ones.. but this is another miscarriage of justice.  ...Unless the rifle did not perform as designed, they sued the wrong entity.

Just another symptom of people who cannot accept personal responsibility..  the killer and perhaps his parent may be blamed (sued), but it is only natural that lawyers go for "deeper pockets".

Now do they start going after Louisville slugger, Case knife, Crescent wrenches or Ford cars, when some killer uses their product to kill or injure someone?   Are there still juries dumb enough to fall for it ?

what auto company must be holding their breath, now that the Kenosha SUV killer is on trial?

Reckon one could use the same tactic against ammo suppliers.
Ammunition is like firewood. The more you have, the warmer you feel.

There is no Remington arms company. They went defunct.. The insurance companies settled for 73 million dollars not Remington arms.

Yep, insurance companies settled for the hit !   Still we must be concerned, since juries are so ready and willing to be jackasses.

It may come to a head, the first time an auto company pays or Louisville slugger has to go belly-up !

All the more reason we need constitutional judges on the SCOTUS !

I believe all judges on the SCOTUS are supposed to be constitutional. Or rule on what the constitution says.

Would a judge even be involved in a settlement?
99% of all Lawyers give the other 1% a bad name. What I find hilarious about this is they are such an arrogant bunch, that they all think they are in the 1%.

Usually a judge will preside over any court of record, criminal, or civil.

I dont think  insurance lawyers are about right or wrong , they  look to make a problem disappear with the least settlement payout possible .

One of today's big problems...  So few people concerned with RIGHT or WRONG...

....Too happy just doing what is expedient !
