Gun show
« on: March 04, 2022, 05:30:56 AM »
It's the first in the area since covid hit. Starts tomorrow. The wind is going to blow so I'm going to go. Oh boy, I made a rhyme. I will have to trave to Carlsbad, a 72 mile trip one way but it is something to get me out of the house on a less than nice day. Me, son-in-law, grandson, and great grandson going. Oh, there is a great BBQ joint there also.

Sounds like a great day planned.  There was the first gun show around here that happened a few months ago.

We have had many here. Should be a good show. Bring extra cash if yours have been shut down...

It wasn't bad at all for a small show. There was some interesting old stuff and that was my interest. More new stuff of course but a nice day was had by the three of us. The youngester stayed home we were spared trying to keep him corraled. Incidently the BBQ was delicious.

Edited: Auto correct must have been turned on and I missed it. There was nothing indecent about the BBQ.

Last gun show I went to was more commercial than anything else, and everything was way over priced. Was that one pretty good?

Prices were pretty reasonable at the one I attended yesterday. Of course I saw some things that were on the edge of or outright gouges. It had the usual "other" stuff. Everything from handmade quilts to cheap sunglasses. There were two very large tables of scopes, red dots, flashlights etc., both by makers I had never heard of. I went looking for either a CZ 452, a Ruger 77/22, or a H&R 999 revolver and none were in evidence.  Son-in-law came home with a nice AR at good price and I scored an Encore which I had been searching for on the internet with no luck except at outrageous prices.

I go to at least 3 - 4 gun shows a year and about once a year find a fair deal on something I want and I will buy it.
I get kinda mad at the promoters of the show because they advertise the show has no flea market stuff and the table holders are supposed to have gun related items on their tables.
BUT most of them I go to have a least half of the tables with, T shirts, Chinese tools, junk jewelry, food items, and  stuff that belongs at flea markets.  I guess the promoters need to rent to these people to sell more tables but their table rates are already to high for me to rent and be able to sell a gun or two and not be loosing money doing it.

I will no longer go to a gun show where they charge to park on top of the entrance fee as the greed is making gun shows no longer a fun outing and a place where sellers and buyers can do business and both be happy.

Maybe it’s just me not wanting to except the recent inflation of everything but gun shows used to be more fun and a place to spend a pleasant afternoon but now more of a waste of time especially if you have to travel a long distance to go to them.

^ ^ ^ this ^ ^ ^
Used to be guns, gun parts and accessories, knives
and hunting/camping related items ONLY
No exception
Then, they started letting the trinkets in, but
they absolutely had to be at the far corner
all together.  No exception
Now all the scented candles and potpourri
and costume jewelry and such bs is all
throughout the show.
I haven't been to one in a very long time.
As posted ^ ^ before,  overpriced junk
and trinkets.  Many more looky loos in
the way of a serious buyer, and of course
they muddy the water and aggravate any
serious vendors and make it harder for
a sincere buyer to find a deal
Id as soon stay home
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .
