No roots or no pride or both or something else?
« on: March 07, 2022, 03:51:31 PM »
Hadn't ever thought about it
until the weekend.
I had a card that was given to
me, and the guy didn't speak in
a manner I was familiar with,
and he wrote the abbreviated TX
instead of Texas.
I've known a good many people
from different regions, and it's
occured to me that most will write
out their place of origin, but some
abbreviate. I used to correspond
with a man in New York state I
did some business with, and we'd
Email back and forth sometimes
about fishing and the different ways
and fish we caught. He would always
spell out New York. Same for a man
I would shoot with every now and then.
He always wrote out Michigan.

Is that a side effect of texting or something
kind of like lol and similar?
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

.
Since so many people, when they hear the name "New York'..assume the person is a denizen of that "asphalt jungle" way down on the coast near New Jersey, I almost always make sure that I am not involved with that mess. That is why I often use my proper location, away from the big cities..

As with many states, the attitudes of their largest cities, nowhere near reflects the attitudes/opinions of the rest of the state.
Here in the empire state, the same is compounded because the largest, most confused city bears the same name as the state.

They should have left it with it's name of New Amsterdam...

In addressing envelopes and such, I have abbreviated TX. for as long as I can remember. The same if I'm sending a letter to another state, I abbreviate that state. NC, KS, OK, ect.

I very rarely write Pennsylvania. Nor does anyone else.

I use NM mostly. I think it's because I'm too lazy to write it out, not because I didn't originate here. In fact I never gave this subject a though until reading Ranger's post. When it comes to Texas it's about half and half for me.

I will write Arkansas because too many dummies think AR is Arizona.

Come on, every time I see AK I think of the clunky, sheet metal, eastern block battle rifle.  ;D

LOL, you mean that clunky sheet metal eastern block battle rifle that seldom jams, and shoots every time you pull the trigger? ;D
