I said my son had taken a photo years ago, featuring a rustic fence, which I thought reflected my views and personality, and I planned on having that blown up, so I could frame it in a large format.

Alas..I found it was an  old enough photo...that the grain wouldn't allow such a treatment without becoming too fuzzy and distorted.

So I have made another choice, which illustrates the same concept...  I post both below.

Second choice is a well known print, available from many sources..

When I studied photography I thought grainy/fuzzy pictures sucked, even though some instructors like as a vice-versa, to painfully sharp photos.
In my warped old age, I have come to have positive feeling towards them.
I actually regret not thinking outside the box back then.

There is/was one photo of a race car that to me is the best online and it is extremely grainy in black & white.
I had it on my computer and was going to print it out but the laptop went pfft and I lost it and I cannot find it again.

Your first picture though still reminds me of the best days of my youth.

Leaving some photos grainy is an art form, and works well in some instances...often suggesting things far beyond the given subject.  However, in this case i wanted clarity.

There are many benefits to today's digital photography.  One benefit is so often demonstrated by the ever popular "selfies" !  So often we see a selfie that taken face on..makes the nose look exceptionally large, exaggerating the closer parts.
For one thing, an excellent portrait can be taken at a distance, since with today's high res, it can be enlarged greatly, without any visible loss of sharpness.

Of course, there is the benefit of 'no cost' multiple shots.  Where previously, a photographer would have to take many shots and then develop the film, print and work with the photos...  What a relief, just scan your photos and dup those you don't like.

Now, I am a high-tech troglodyte, so don't ask me tech questions.  ..But for instance, in the photo below, which is one of a series my son shot for the lady's swim suit collection..and for the sport board marketer..

I have watched him process many such photos, and on his equipment, he can draw the young lady's photo so close, that you can get a clear view of each eyelash ..or check closely the edges of the decals on the board.
Of course, one cannot do it with our laptop, since it cannot handle the pixel count..  Yet, by enlarging and enlarging again, one can see that it is far better than the old, grainy stuff!

You old rascal !   ;D ;D ;D  She and her sister have started a swim suit company, so naturally they wanted advertising photos.  My son also had a swim board company that wanted photos for their product.
So he combined the girls with the boards and shazam!  A win/win for all involved..the board builder gets free models, the swim suit girls get free props..and my son collects full pay from both!

It sounds like a good deal for both. When you get to our age looking is all that's possible especially when certain medications are involved. There ain't nothing wrong with my eyes though.  ;D

how about a bit more "eye candy" from the same shoot? Shoot done at a club on the south shore of Lake Erie.
I assume you have already checked the eyelashes.... right?
