Except for the price of gas
« on: March 11, 2022, 05:51:20 AM »
Yesterday the wife and I along with our son visited our area's large town, Lubbock, Texas. On the way home we made a detour through the wide spot in the road of Meadow, located 6 miles north of a larger wide spot, Brownfield, looking for old buildings to photograph at a later date as neither of us took a camera due to the very fresh norther that blew in early in the morning. Sitting beside an old building from the early '50's with it's original business logo was  an early Rambler, a model I had never seen. It appeared to have it's original paint and  be in very good condition. It must have been garage kept or the sun would have ruined the paint long ago. I'm trying to make up my mind if it's worth the cost of a trip to get photos of the bygone relic plus there are old building opportunities along the way including Tokio which is mostly fallen down wooden structures now and who knows how many more old vehicles I may run across.

I don't. Too damn many people. The only reason I went was to pick out the leather I wanted to make a couple of belts. Of course my wife and son both had their places to go. Truthfully if I never had to return to the place it wouldn't bother me in the least. Oh, I got to ride well over a mile on Broadway which is still a brick paved street. Been a long, long time since I was on it and guess what? It's still a rough ride. I'm glad I wasn't in the jeep wrangler.

Not a Lubbock fan either. A dirty town, where the wind doesn't blow, but the dirt damn sure does.

My work involves a lot of travel, mainly to large cities. Almost all are filthy, one exception is Salt Lake City, the LDS, think of them what you want, keeps a clean city. Portland has to be the worst I have visited, garbage and feces everywhere, as well as homeless everywhere. My coworker and I were walking to a restaurant and saw a bum bathing in a fountain.

Not a Lubbock fan either. A dirty town, where the wind doesn't blow, but the dirt damn sure does.

To show just how stupid government agencies are several years ago the EPA cited Lubbock for their air quality during one of those gee golly whopper sandstorms they get in the spring. The farmers, in general, are doing a better job of soil management now and the dirt doesn't seem to blow quite as bad. Several years ago I picked up my son-in-law's FLH at the Harley shop and rode it home for him. It was in the spring and of course we had a sandstorm hit just before I headed out. The wind was so strong it was blowing my off side foot off the highway peg and I had to use the floor board. It was not a fun motorcycle ride.

During the time frame of the Lubbock citation they did the same thing to Roswell, NM. We could get local NBC news at that time and it was carried as "In a city where you can see 87 miles the EPA cited them for air quality during a sandstorm." Sandstorms in Roswell don't amount to much compared to Lubbock. Kind of nasty compared to really nasty.

Lubbock does have some good restaurants and the south plains mall. We go there for the food and shopping.
It’s about 100 Miles from Clovis.
