Pre-Fit Recoil Pad
« on: March 10, 2004, 06:23:02 AM »
Hi All, I just got a Pachmayr pre-fit decelerator recoil pad for my dad's Marlin 336. When I test fit the pad, it fit well except for the toe of the stock where it was about 1/8th of an inch or so short of the end of the stock.  My question to you is do I cut the stock back an 1/8th of an inch, sand it back an 1/8th or send the pad back and have the gunsmith install one? My dad wants me to just install it and not worry about it but it just doesn't look right... I'm open to suggestions... CEJ

I guess in my mind if it is supposed to fit your make and model rifle, then it better fit.  I would send it back.  If you have to go to a gunsmith then just get a pachmeyer and have him grind it down.

Prefit pads are not a well conceived product.  There is just too much variability if stock shape and profile...  Get a smith to fit a Pachmeyer or just fit it yourself.  It's really one of the simpler jobs a smith faces..
