At least the lithium is found in Nevada, a desert state.  It is also enough in California to make every car in America electric.  But California won't allow strip mining or at least massive strip mining without replacement of soil and native vegetation.  However they are now working on iron batteries that are much cheaper.  Lots of scrap iron around.  Problem is it will make the cars very heavy.

When they are done do they become a landfill? That one would make a big landfill.
