Right now about 1/10 of Ukrainians have fled to the west. Before this is all over probably 20% of Ukrainians will have fled Ukraine. These are the ones with a little money and vehicles. They are probably also the skilled workers. They could easily fit into any western nation to work without getting handouts. Unlike the unskilled workers coming across our southern border. It is bad when a lot of Russians know the truth. They are the one's who invaded Ukraine. Not the other way around. Also, it really doesn't matter if Ukraine had corruption or even NAZI's in their country. These two reasons are why they were never allowed into NATO or the EU. This new president of Ukraine was elected to get rid of corruption, thus the 80+% vote for him, even if he was an actor.
Putin's invasion is what it is, an invasion of an independent nation. A nation not at war with anyone, or starting problems with any neighbors, who gave up their nukes for security promises from the west. Putin though he could march in and people would cheer his troops and throw flowers, etc. They responded with resistance. They were under the Soviet thumb for 70 years, and before that the Tzars. They have enjoyed freedom for over 30 years now, and didn't want to go back under Russia's thumb, plain and simple. So they are fighting, many have sent their women and children west to stay and fight. Russia was not ready for resistance, and this is embarrassing to Putin. So, they are relying on artillery and rocket to bomb civilian areas to try to break their will. So far it is not working. Even in the Russian speaking city of Mariupol, they are resisting. Ukraine was becoming westernized, and Russia didn't like it.
As far as Russia being a Christian nation. Putin is all talk to get votes, he was KGB, which means he is an athiest. Putin gave more freedom of religion to get the support of most Russians, not because he really cared.
