Batherapy
« on: March 23, 2022, 04:21:54 PM »
My poor knee is acting up and I was sure I
had some salve for sore joints in the closet,
but I came upon a container of Batherapy
bath salts I've had tucked away for a good while.
Made up some hot water and soaked the
old squeaky knee for a while and it helped it
a good bit. It's still not great, but at least I
don't bite my lip every time it bends
Good stuff
I'd forgotten I even had it
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

Glad to see your Batherapy helped..
I have a left knee that "blows up" as I call it, and does it everYy couple months..  It happens during the night..so when I wake up in the morning and try to bend it...OOOWCH !

Usually, topical treatments (things rubbed into the skin) are not very effective, but this time I went to RITE-AID and asked the pharmacist if there was any topical treatment that was any good.

She showed me one that has just been moved from prescription to over-the-counter status.  It is called DICLOFENAC SODIUM TOPICAL GEL 1%.

It was pricey, 5.29 oz..cost $21.  It  recommends to rub in a 4.2" strip of the gel for any joint below the waist ... a bit less for upper joints.  It worked quite well overnight for me.
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)

Several orthopedic surgeons later, two total knee replacements is what I'm told I need. Due to my Type 2 Diabetes I've become a slow healer. Haven't yet decided to roll the dice on that method.

If I'm thinking correctly, my BIL has
2 now.  Everybody I've ever talked to
has a different opinion about it. Every
other person says just get one and heal
and get the other afterwards, and the
other folks say to get them both at
one time so as to only have one stretch
of pain and be done with the therapy etc.
My BIL getting his didn't do him any good.
He can barely stumble along with a walker
and won't ever walk unassisted again.
Personally, if I get to the point of needing
joint replacement I'll have to think really
hard before I let anyone cut on me again.
I'm one of the group that leaves the hospital
a bit less capable each time

Dee ive had two hip replacements an ankle replacement and the latest was a knee. The knee has given me much more problems recovering from. Im 6 months out and still cant lay on my side to sleep. I just dont know if i knew then what i know now if i just wouldnt have lived with it. but that would have made the cane nessiary every day.  Ill say this about all my joint replacements. If you think your going to come out totaly pain free your in for a disappointment. What they done for me is allow me to keep walking. There sore every morning when i get up. Not real pain but enough of it where some would be pissing and moaning constantly. Hips are a piece of cake. Knees and ankles are not fun.

Well Lloyd, I've pretty much nixed the idea. The pain has been there for years, and I've just learned to tolerate it.  I still get around ok, but have no real spring in either.

But I'm still walking.
