What has Hollywood done to SciFi movies?
« on: March 30, 2022, 10:19:29 AM »
They arent the same anymore. Now its just not much of real SciFi, just a bunch of monster movies. Not anything much about space exploration. Good thing i bought the DVDs of the ones i really like.

There was some kind of space something
on one of the oddball newer channels a
while back, and I tried to watch a few minutes
of it,  but it wasn't long before two of the
female alien monster type characters
started a lez make out session. Bye bye

( I guess aliens have a different
moral compass?)
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

What have they done to them? Pretty well ruined them in my book. CGI has allowed them to turn sci-fi into really weird fantasy or dull, boring, sci-fi. I haven't seen anything in that genre worth watching come out of the movie industry for quite awhile now.

There are a handful of good (Alien monster)free movies. More about exploration, pioneering, and the dangers therein.
I don't mind the Aliens but the monster plot stuff is starting to wear thin. Then there are the Time travel movies which are good and food for thought. AI movies can be good also. It can be a long list. Alien invasion movies are war movies.
Gravity
Interstellar
The right stuff
2001 a space odyssey
2012
2010
Contact
Passengers
Arrival
The Martian, the book was better.
Red Planet, which only had those bugs.
The day the Earth stood still, both of them including the Robot.

The last scifi movie I watched was the original version of "The Day The Earth Stood Still ". I think I saw a commercial where that movie had been remade.
So, whenever it was that movie came out was when I watched it.  I remember I was a kid.

I agree, there have been a few recent SciFi movies I thought were very good, and you've listed several of them.  It is unfortunate that the bulk of the genre has been flooded with B-movie plots and monsters.

Just more splatter horror films. No real substance. I love a good Time travel movie. There are a few of them i can mention. Also anomaly's that happen and someone finds themselves in the future or the past. The Twilight Zone made a few of these. AI, Dust on youtube did a few few of these. You can look them up over there.
Custom order. Which is a bit racy.
A week with Rebecca, which won a lot of awards from all over. It is a very good one.

I've been watching a lot of the Dust videos on YouTube.  Some of them are pretty good, others are... well.. different.

A great one was "Forbidden Planet", made way back in the '50's' and starred Leslie Neilson and Anne Francis but Robbie the Robot kind of stole the show. It featured the very first special effects. I saw it when it originally hit theaters and there a was a bad thunderstom that hit about the middle of the movie and knocked the power out for at least 30 minutes. I don't think anyone left and we just waited until power was restored and watched the rest of the feature. No monsters, no hoo doos, an all around good movie eith a believable robot.

IG may give me flack for saying this but Anne wasn't hard to look at either.
