Even though it's "illegal" for the ATF to build a database, I've always believed they are/have built it. A friend pointed out to me, from his own experience, that the state of Washington clearly have or have access to such a database.

all i know is about every time i buy a gun my background check gets delayed and if i have my wife do it it goes through immediately. Either they have a list and look at how many guns ive bought or they give preferential treatment to women. My buddy has the exact same problem and anymore just has his wife buy them. id have to guess theres already a list.

Tut...tut, Lloyd;
  Don't you guys know it is illegal for one person to buy for another?   ;)  :D ;D

   Actually, I guess one could always plead that.."since we are married, two persons become one".

  Besides, from what I understand, a wife cannot be compelled to testify against her spouse..

  ...Better stay married!  :D ;D

Unlikely to be due to how many guns you buy or a lot of people I know would have that problem.  It's more likely there is an issue uncovered in the NICS check that has to be manually investigated.  Do you put your SSN on the form?  If not, that can help. Anything at all in your past that might slow things down, old charges like disorderly conduct that they might have to see if there was a domestic component?  Have you ever had your identity stolen so the background check picks up something someone else did?  Or it could simply be a person with the same name that has disqualifying issues that they have to manually check on to make sure it isn't really you.

I've never understood why certain people get delayed. I was convicted of a felony many years ago and have since had my rights restored. I never get delayed. I even have a C&R ffl.
99% of all Lawyers give the other 1% a bad name. What I find hilarious about this is they are such an arrogant bunch, that they all think they are in the 1%.

Only charges against me ever was a dwi in the 80s and  a couple speeding tickets when i was young. There isnt to many people named Lloyd Smale. I put my ss number on the form because i have nothing to hide. Id think if it was a name thing they'd be kicking back my wifes and thats never happened. Not once. Same with my buddy and he has NO history with the law other then a few speeding tickets when he was a teenager. Again they've never kicked his wife back even once. Gun dealer did tell him that he said  women's applications never get kicked back. Told him in the 7 years hes owned the shop its only happened once and that women had a felony drug conviction on her record.  Maybe its that they push those through just in case a women happens to get attack and isnt armed because she is waiting for approval. I dont really know and the fact is nobody does because they kick you back and dont give a reason. Which in itself to me an infringement on my rights. Honestly i believe they red flag people that buy alot of guns. Id bet its the exact reason they want background checks for buying ammo. Typical year i buy 5-10 new guns and have bought probably 20 ar15s or lowers in the last 5 years and thats a conservative number. Id bet just that puts a red flag on your name.

I got delayed one time about 12-15 years ago.  Found out someone with my same name in California had a warrant out for their arrest for bouncing checks.  I finally got approved 3 days later.  Didn't know why I got delayed at the time, however about 2-3 months later I went in to get my drivers license renewed.  Lady called a deputy in, and he stood their with his hand on his gun.  She asked me if I have ever been to California, I said no, since I haven't.  I showed her my picture CC permit.  Anyway, she then said someone in California with my name had the warrant out.  The deputy left, and she proceeded with my license.

Getting delayed can be a simple matter of someone with your name having a warrant out, a restraint order, or a felony conviction in another state.  Giving them your social security number when you get a license helps them to look it up quicker.

Anyway I haven't bought a new gun in years.  Got all I need to do all my hunting and self protection needs as well as clay shooting and target practice.

I actually had a person who claimed to be a lawyer here on GBO that one can't get their rights restored. I didn't argue with him because you ain't  going to change some peoples minds.

Around here, with the last name of smith, I have been ending up as number 4000+- on the check list. Same when my wife bought a gun.

4000+- means it takes about 10 days to be approved. I have friends with less common last names that sometimes go thru the same day and Oregon is slow.
