YELLOW PUKE
« on: June 05, 2022, 08:15:15 AM »
Nancy walked out by the fence yesterday to do some gardening and quickly backed up.
She called me but I didn't know what it was so she took a picture and posted it on facebook.
Her best friend and big time gardener identified it for her.
It's Yellow Puke Fungi, It grows in wet ground and Nancy had put some wet compost from her pile there a few days ago.

Gaaak. The only thing I ever see around here is a toadstool and that's very seldom. Even our unusually wet summer last year didn't cause any to show up.

Heh, they sure were unappetizing.
Before I knew what they were, I poked'em with a stick to see if I got a reaction. :)

One ting we do get around here, is the "puffball".  They usually show up overnight..a placw that was lawn the day before..by morning can have a giant puffball at daybreak next morning.

For something that sprouts and grows overnight, they are remarkably solid..

They are good to eat.. Sauteed, they are much like egg plant or certain squashes.

Yeah, I've eaten puffballs since I was a kid, it's the only shroom I trust to be good to eat.

Yeah, you have to use those puffballs right away, because by the end of the day they are past use, and after a couple days all they amount to is a dry, brown skin...filled with a dirty brown powder.

Yep, fresh picked and sauteed in butter they are great.
I pick them while they still have a white skin.

You guys and your fungi...I'll stick to REAL FOOD like MEAT and Taters, and Corn, and...you get the picture.  There are some very strange things in Mother Nature's Garden that spring up to devour that which is dead.  A single slip in eating what one thinks to be edible could lead instead to getting "digested alive".  Ewwww, shiver down the spine at that thought.

did you possibly sneeze. Looks kind of like burnt brain matter.
I've seen stinkhorn fungus in Florida and Georgia.
Once you see them and smell them you won't forget them...

I'm the same way, except for puff balls, I love'em.
I like to find'em about softball size.
I don't trust myself to pick anything else.

Puffball is about the only one I will use, because there is no other like it !  Still, I only use puffballs on rare occasions.

As a kid I toted home a million of them.
It been about 5 years now since I’ve had one.
I just can’t walk the woods now.
