Safer travel
« on: July 04, 2022, 06:13:28 AM »
I guess my family and derivatives are known around here for helping those in almost any kind of need. Thus we get called upon by people in need.

This morning after walking over to my son's house, I was sitting there in the kitchen..cup of coffee in hand, when a youngish woman knocked at the door.
It seems she wanted a ride to a house some miles up the road. I offered to take her there..but she preferred a woman drive her.  No problem, probably best for all of us..but she was acting squirrely.

So my daughter-in-law volunteered.  We did recognize her as a member of a local family who has a history of struggling with various addictions, chiefly alcohol.

Just after they left, it dawned upon my son an dI that even this woman could be a danger, so we took off and trailed a comfortable distance behind...but all went well.

That got me to thinking..what can a woman .or anybody do, if a person is riding in front beside them, and pulls a knife or gun, an demands something.

Here's my suggestion..  If possible, drive through a populated section..slowly  15-20 mph.  Then when feasible, quickly steer into a nearby tree, electric pole or other object that will set off the airbags.
By the time both recover from the deployment..a sufficient crowd will have gathered to deter further action by the perp.

I figure an air bag in the face and some collision damage, is far better than winding up raped and/or murdered..  If you think this advice makes sense..pass it on to those you love.

Who knows...someday perhaps it can save them.

I don't have any faith in the
people in my area
They might gather around a wreck,
but not to assist.
They'd be eyeballing and most likely
videoing with their phones

There was a housefire several houses
down a couple of weeks ago during the
wee hours,  and although there were
a good many looking, only 2 of us called
it in. Me and some unknown somebody.
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

I would have forked over money for Lyft or Uber.
And Nancy is forbidden to give anyone a ride.

May sound harsh , but I would have told her to call a cab .
No cabs around here for about 35 miles..and she likely couldn't afford one..she even saw a tray of brownies on the counter and begged one of them.  My son gave her about 4 of them.

Later, my daughter-in-law did admit that she forgot to pack her Glock.  I guess we are spoiled around here; if somebody is in an accident, a fire breaks out or any other emergency.. there is usually lots of help/assistance.

..And with may of the neighbors..plenty of help once the problem has subsided.

.. but tell me, wouldn't it make more sense in most cases, a mild, bag protected crash..preferable to a rape or murder?

First, I would have said no to a female only part, you came to me, you don't get to dictate the terms of my generosity.  I, as a father, and old NCO, would have had a female tag along anyway, but no way let them go by themselves.
