The 4th of July always reminds me of summer and or growing up as a kid; most of these were part of that.
I remember well when B&M were the premium canned beans of the day and Vam Kamps were the cheap brand.

There were no store bought cans in our house growing up.

But Mom canned tomatoes, ketchup, squash, green beans, chickens, poke salat, turnip greens, plus we put up onions, potatoes, and turnips under the house in a dugout area.
We killed chickens, hogs, and rabbits, plus we hunted rabbits, squirrels, quail, and coons.

Vienna wieners. About every old timer I hunted with as a kid carried these in his hunting coat. Nasty, slimey things. To this day I'd have to be pretty darn hungry to eat one..................

My Dad would eat those and any other spam or potted (meat)? He always used the term “treat” when referring to it... ik, sure ain’t no treat to me but he did come from hard times and had to fight his 5 brothers for the fat in the pork and beans can. He claims he always got it and I don’t doubt it...

Any of the solidified canned meats
such as viennas or spam is 20
times better cooked a bit and
slightly browned.  Sliced and browned
in a skillet allowing the grease to
cook out makes spam pretty tasty.
Makes a great sandwich

Same here pretty much except delete the squirrels, quail, and coons and substitute steers.

They make good doggie treats. You can get a six pack for under $4.00.

We didn’t have beef except a hamburger at the fair and even then I usually got a foot long hot dog.
We moved to town when I was 12 and then Mom would fix hamburgers at home.

when i was a single man i ate alot of dinty moore stew. Still have it in the cupboard but the wife doesnt care for it so i have to make it when shes not home for supper. Use to eat hormel chilli when i was single and lazy too. Another thing i used to buy often was cans of sliced ham. They were about a 1/4 inch thick and hamburger buns sized. Probably more like spam then real ham. But there aint nothing wrong with spam either.
