first crew cab pickup

I thought they were a more recent invention but the first was a International harvester 3 door crew cab in 1961. Bet they never figured then that some day about every truck sold would have a back seat.

  I am most surprised that crew cabs have so saturated the market. Why, I don't know, since for family use, most of those families have passenger cars already.  It would seem that SOMEBODY would just need  an old fashioned pickup truck.

  Same goes for 4WD around here, almost none sold without it..

While I find the extended/crew cab trucks handy, I just can't warm up to them. Standard cab 3/4 ton 4x4 with an 8ft bed has always been my favorite.

I like the standard cab, short wide bed has always been my favorite.

I tend to prefer the extended cab, short bed over the crew cab.  Hidden doors, ability to recline the front seats, a back seat when needed and a better look from the exterior.  I think the 5.5 to 6.5 foot bed is plenty, because if you need to carry plywood or something you can just let the tailgate down.

my preference is a short box standard cab 4x4. they look cool and are so much easier to get around in the woods with compared to an extended cab. But i have to concede that an extended cab is handy. You can carry passengers or even throw all your hunting or fishing gear in the back. Last one we bought was a ram crew cab or whatever they call the bigger cab. thing is (censored word) huge in the back seat. You could fold up the seat and use it to camp in. What sucks is the little 5.5 foot box. Aint good for much of anything. Next one ill probably go back to a extended cab. But that said i have room for one more vehicle and id love to find a 2x4 short box ram r/t to build up for another summer toy. But like my wife said ive got so many summer toys now they mostly sit because theres no time. Summers to short up here. heck i doubt i put more then a 1000 miles on the challenger this summer and most of that was the wife driving it to work. I think I personaly drove it twice.

Since I've had this supercab, I don't
think I could do without one.
Secure place to put your goods like
firearms and luggage and such.
I've had different toppers and
tool boxes, but they seem to attract
thievery and every one I've had has
been broken into.  There's no use
in trying to lock a toolbox or a
topper. They'll just break the latch
mechanism and most likely the
lid or door too, then you're no
better off than you were before

   Although my son has a Ford Transit window van for his photography/drone business, just last week he picked up his brand new Ford Maverick 4 door..for a personal car/truck.
   
  He may use it for work out in the ski areas, to cover the million+ dollar "ski cabins" that some folks have on very rugged roads surrounding the slopes.  Being a personal car..he will need to rent it to his business on some of those winter days.  The extra room allows for safer storage of his equipment.

  He and his wife also like to vacation carrying their electric bikes.  He is getting a hard tonneau cover that can be locked, along with the tailgate.

  BTW: that turbo charged 4 cyl engine is quite a performer..
