Great Value oats and honey granola bars
« on: July 15, 2022, 01:04:03 PM »
These are not bad at all.
Fairly decent.
I'll have to stash a few in
the vehicle to let the weather
work on them for a few
months to see if they last ok.
A dollar eighty seven a package
if I'm remembering right

Bag of Millville granola. 11 oz bag from aldis seems to hold up well past the best by date. Tastes good. Not sure on price but even in today’s market I believe it is below $3...

Hate to say it, but their Great Value brand for most of their products are pretty good.  I get their trail mixes, breakfast bowls and their toaster pastries to keep at work for when I fail to take breakfast or lunch.

Yes
There's a good many affordable
cereals available, but I was mainly
Interested in the bars to have something
ready to eat as is in case of whatever
emergency etc.  that might arise
and ordinary everyday cooking or
preparation for a meal might not
be in the cards.
There's times when I go for a
medical appointment that they
have me fast for a day so they
see how much of my blood they
can drain without killing me.
I like to have something to eat
after I stagger out to my truck
that will get me to where I'm not
seeing stars anymore.  I've also
been trying different things for
some time now that can be
eaten without having to stop
moving along to a destination
and not have to devote much
attention to eating or preparing
something to eat

I should have also added that
I like a few of the energy bars
like the yuppie bicycle riders
and joggers and hikers eat,
but some are just too expensive
and some are not very edible
to me at all

Very much off topic but, what the heck kinda store is Aldis? One just recently opened not far from me, well relatively close anyway. I've never seen one and really never heard of them. Is it a grocery store, department store or what sort of store?

Aldi is a store from Germany as far as
i know
The local one always has all this european
type stuff like strange canned fish and
european breads and crackers and stollen
and stuff like that. Since this is border jumper
central, a good bit of the european type
stuff sells pretty slow or not at all.
The Fiesta store across the street outsells
them way way more even though they're
higher priced.  The aldi is the closest grocery
store to me and I shop there more often
as long as they don't overprice stuff .
For a while there, their lunch meat was a
good bit higher than the other stores, and
they were just out of a lot of things
for a period of time.  No meats or
dairy and canned goods, etc.
They used to have really good affordable
frozen pizzas, but they haven't had
those for a very long time. They haven't
had any fishsticks for about a year
now. They have the buggies that you
have to insert a refundable quarter in
the slot to free up the cart to use, but
I don't mind that at all. You just have to
return the cart to the cart storage area
and your quarter squirts right back
out of the slot after you properly stow
it back. You also need to bring your own
bags or sacks to put your groceries in,
or they'll sell you some new for about
a dime apiece.  I have a goodly pile
of plastic and reusable shopping bags,
so it's no hardship for me. The cart
"rental" isn't an issue for me either
since I get my quarter right back after
I return the cart to the rightful place.
It's kinda funny to me that a good
many pinheads in this area try to
get quarters out of the "coinbox" on
the carts, when there's nothing inside
of the mechanism. As soon as you
return the cart and click it back together,
there's no money inside of it.

Not a bad place to shop overall.
Way closer than any other for me

Just what you said of it is enough to keep me from ever going there to check it out. At leas now I have some idea of what kind of store it is.

The ones in my area have fish sticks, fish patties, raw frozen fish of different kinds, same with chicken and pork. The employees do “everything” and that’s how they keep the prices down. All types of vegetables fresh or frozen, generic or name brand stuff, their generic cereal is under $2 a box and my kids like it. Some things are better or cheaper elsewhere, so I shop around a bit. I also grab empty boxes from their cart or off the shelves the fresh vegetables have large heavy duty boxes and I usually grab those even if I have to put a few bags of some veggie in the box under it. I highly recommend this store...

Great Value is wally world/china
mart/walmart store brand

Didn't look at the volume of the
package. It's more about being able
to open something and eat without
preparation or utensils on the go
when I buy something like this.
For regular leisurely breakfasting,
I'll fix oatmeal from the big cardboard
tub and/or eggs boiled or scrambled
or something like that along with
the pot of dribbled coffee

Good to know some store brand products are worth trying. Walmart is right down the road from work, so is a local brand grocery store with fair prices on store brands.

Aldi's is a good place for me to get canned and dry goods. I've gotten fresh food also, just not as much as I usually get it the day I want it. In this area they are located in lower income neighborhoods in general where they have lots of folks who can get there by bus.

Since things started going sideways they have had some items not in stock. Prices have gone up but where haven't they? All told it is a semi regular place for me to shop.

Hold still while I overthink this.
