In was getting low on those rolls of white printless paper in the bath room, so off to the local store for a restocking. Almost had an heart attack when I started pricing them. If they get any higher, I may have to start raising those jungle broad leaf plants. All I have growing is fir, and narrow leaf oaks. They just won't get the job done.

Speaking of Dollar G. They recently expanded their inventory and remodeled in My town. As soon as they finished, the county or state closed them down for using an unlicensed contractor and not up to code in Oregon. That's been over a week ago, and they are still closed.

DG seems to be doing even better around here since their remodeling.  It is obvious, they expanded their grocery department.
  Whatever they dropped to add groceries in the same store..i don't miss..
 
We have a DG nearby and it sure is handy, otherwise I would have to travel about 12 miles to pick up a can of beans, or a dozen Keurig cups.

  My grandson's Mom (son's first wife), manages a DG over near where she lives.  In an ironic note, she had to
  shake down a whole Amish family, whose garments were full of merchandise, mostly food stuffs.

  That rather surprised me...

You should have only mesquite, catclaw, or prickly pear which are my options.

 I'm OK though as I just switched back to the print version of our local paper because my wife missed the cross word puzzles. Since there are two of us we will have to ration it as it has decreased in size again since I went digital. It isn't much larger than magazine size now and not many pages and only publishes five days a week.

We noticed a couple of years back that instead of raising prices, some TP manufacturers made the roll about 1/2" more narrow than the original standard width.  Inflation has been around like this.  16 oz cans are now 15 ozs.  16 oz bags or potato chips are now 10-12 ozs.  You either pay more or get less. 

An interesting fact:

In 1800 1 oz of gold or a $20 bill backed by gold could buy you 2 suits of clothes.

In 1900 1 oz of gold or a $20 bill backed by gold could buy you 2 suits of clothes as the dollar was still backed by gold. 

Then along came the Federal Reserve under Wilson and money "floated" and became fiat money.

In 2000 1 oz of gold was worth around $1000 and could still buy 2 suits of clothes (after exchange at a bank for dollars).  However $20 would only buy you the socks or underware. 

Gold value never really changed, only the dollar as it grows less and less valuable over time.  Same with silver which is worth around $20 today.  A silver dollar in the 1800's was worth a $1.  Gold is actually worth $1,780 per oz today.

If you lived in a small town like I do you would care. We have one Food store here, and they know and act like it. Their prices are out of sight. The same Items at the Dollar General were in some instances almost half the price. So as to the question, who cares? I do! And a lot of other folks who live here. The next good Grocery store for me is 30 miles round trip, and many Biden gals. of gas away.

We've got a Dollar General, and a small grocery store. Depending on what you need, both are handy to have in Nowheresville Texas.

The next good Grocery store for me is 30 miles round trip, and many Biden gals. of gas away.

I am in a suburb of a city with a lot of grocery and hardware stores, Fleet Farm , my favorite is a 16 mile round trip and with most ending up a round trip of 20-30 miles.
I could go to a Hardware Hank , within walking distance (and I do  on rare occasions walk the the four blocks, plus another two to the grocery store) but I save zero due to much higher prices in the local stores.

The Dollar store here, five blocks away, is now a $1.25 store but except for greeting cards, you have to calculate whether or not you are actually saving any money, I can go down to the private thrift store a further mile down the road and get very same items for .50-.75 cents less or more.

There was a pretty new one, new building and
all a couple of blocks away once you hit the
main road,  and it's been empty several years
now.
Robbed one time after another and once
all the employees showed up one morning
and literally cleaned the store out of cash
and the more expensive merchandise, and
thieves ran a car through the store front
the last time before it was permanently closed.

Then, these people holler " we're underserved!
There's no stores around here.  . . "

We nearly live off DG, they started selling produce and a meat dept. Better than going to Wall Mart 20 miles away. DG  sells some nice jeans called Mission Ridge.  Made in Brazil, that’s what the tag says they are.

Murphy is Wall Marts gas station. Still not all that cheap. Not as much as Allsups , Allsups Its Fina gas. $3.20.
