Barrel length for 44 mag lever???

I am getting ready to buy an 1894 in 44 mag.  I am looking at and prefer to get the Cowboy with the 24" octagon barrel over the standard 1894 with the 20".  My question is, when we are talking about fast burning pistol powders do you think the added barrel length hurts the performance.  

I know typically a longer barrel will add to potential higher velocity and accuracy but typically you are talking about a much slower burning rifle powder that utilizes barrel length to fully burn the powder where as powders typically used to load the 44mag will burn up much before the end of the barrel.

with your line of reasoning....  imo go with the shorter barrel as i see no advantage to the longer barrel.   there are folks here that know alot more than i do one the subject,  but i think the short barrel is the way to go.

Thanks for the reply, but I actually want the longer barreled Cowboy Gun.  I like their look, feel, the era and people they represent.  With that said, I will also be using this gun for hunting and I might consider the shorter barrel if my concerns are correct.

Toby I don't think your going to lose anthing from the extra 4", even if you did, it would be minimal and you gain 4" inches of sighting radius, extra weight at the muzzle end to add stability and the big plus is it's the one you want!!  I has been my experience that if I get something that isn't what I really wanted, but I got it anyway because it's said by some to be better...It could put 10 rounds in one hole and I'd still find fault with it.  Better to get what ya want and live with the somewhat lesser performance (I don't think your going to find that in this case).
