More about fighting things I don't want to grow

I posted about how worthless Weed-Be-Gone had become before. I had ordered a quart of Cross Bow just before posting and it finally arrived a little over two weeks ago. I mixed up a gallon with diesel using the exact measurements stated and went out and sprayed a small mesquite bush and a much larger one as directed plus some catclaw and even a beargrass. The small bush appears to have folded it's tent after only two weeks and the big one is showing signs of doing the same. I haven't checked on the cat claw but they are easier to kill for a time than the mesquite. I just did the beargrass yesterday and don't really expect much but if I don't try I will never know. I hope it works because that will be easier than using a grubbing hoe and then spraying the root with Roundup. That is an effective method but it is labor intensive plus you manage to get holes poked in you. Next is a big prickly pear. Just yanking the root ball out with a hoe gets them but the yanking is easier on a dead one which you very seldom find.

A forester told me once to use crossbow on multiflora rose as soon as the leaves appear in the spring. Don't know what that has to do with it, but it worked on that plant very well, and multiflora rose is a pretty tough bush.

I’m going in the opposite direction. Trying to kill all my bluegrass lawn and replace it with drought resistant native grasses and wild flowers. Even collected sage brush rabbit bush and cactus to plant in the yard while hunting last year. Trying to get ahead of the ever rising cost of irrigating a lawn.

Come see me and you can have all the prickly pear cactus you want. Free, dig your own. If I don't have enough there is a place down the road that might part with some.  How about some beargrass? You will really love those.

I did some Christmas cactus and mule ear prickly pear years ago. I finally managed to get rid of the dammed things and never want another cactus unless it is a small decorative one that fits in a flower pot. Momma Nature gives me an abundant supply of native grass, wild flowers and other things, all of which I consider weeds.

+1 on Crossbow.  I tried to recommend it in another thread but don't know how it worked out. No one seemed to think much of it then.
