Nice catch, but I don't
get the whole release thing.
Are they endangered, or is it
just a case of wanting to appease
the animal rights groups?
Aren't these fish supposed to be
really good to eat?

Yes they are somewhat endangered, don't think keeping one is an option. I don't think they are considered that great to eat but there eggs supposedly are. Hmmm, maybe that's why they are endangered, too many of their eggs taken and eaten as caviar.

Sturgeon are endangered pretty much any where in the U.S..

Sturgeon, despite its appearance in the water, is actually a very delectable fish. It has a consistency and texture that fish-lovers very much enjoy. When prepared properly, either raw, cooked, or even boiled, this fish is a favorite among seafood lovers.

Which is why.

Wasn't exactly sure
These days I just about view everything
hunting and fishing with a semi jaundiced
eye. We have these crazy trophy deer antler
laws here, and recently there's a gar fishing
craze going on where people are taking
these guided gar fishing trips and they're
all catch and release. Wasn't long ago
that it was pretty much anything goes as
far as killing gar fish. Now people very
nearly have a hysterical sobbing fit at
the thought of a man poking an arrow
through a big gar or buffalo fish or a
carp.
