Sigma pistol and bad Seller & Bellot ammo
« on: January 04, 2003, 12:53:54 PM »
I was trying out my Sigma .40 with some cheap Seller and Bellot FMJ today and had about four or five squibs out of thirty or so rounds fired. Has anyone else had a problem with S&B? Normally I am a real fan of this stuff, but this has me spooked.  :(

:D Holiday.  What we used to do many moons ago when we got a bad batch of factory ammo, was, send the box back to em and explaint that ya think they might want to check  this batch for further problems, along with the unshot ammo.  I have don this with federal, remington, and got outstanding responce from them.  As in more ammo, that did not have a problem.  I have shot a lot of S&B (maybe 500 rnds),probably not a lot by other standards, and I did not nitice any problems from it other tha being kinda dirty.  It will not hep to try it.  Now I reload all my own ammo except for my carry guns loads.  King

Holiday:  I'm sorry to hear of your problems with the S&B ammo - I have shot a lot of their stuff in many different calibers and haven't ever had a problem.

King is right about letting the factory know about the problems you have had and they should make good on it for you.  I know that Federal and Remington do the same - that is, make good on any faulty product.  The only ammo manufacturer I've never had success with is Winchester - they got rude and blamed everything else but their product.

Mikey.

Tried Winchester 9mm BEB once in my Maddi Cadet - had a lot of FTF's and several jams.  Two went "pffft!" - half the primer cup was gone, and no bang!  Another round had the primer sideways in the case.  Last box of Winny 9mm I ever bought.
Many boxes of UMC ran flawlessly, before and after.

I've used S&B's rifle ammo, and it has always been very good.

Thanks for the replies, folks. I posted this same question over at Perfect Union and got pretty much the same response. I've always been a big S&B fan and was really shocked by this. But I can't for the life of me figure out how it was happening other than it being bad ammo. The two stovepipes could be blamed on the gun, it is a new(to me) pistol. But the two squibs and the definate reduction in noise and recoil I felt in the other two malfunctions can only be the ammo. Since I first posted this message, I have come across some information on this ammo on how it was stored at the store and the possibility of it getting damp. I'm gonna try another brand from elswhere and see what happens.
