Strawberries ruin the Rhubarb, I have never been foud of rhubarb-strawberry pie thing.

Just plain Rhubarb Pie, is as good as it gets; now I have not made on in probably close to ten years and I used to 2 to 3 year.
Time to get busy cooking again.

My mother and MIL both did not put sugar in cornbread, I like it fairly well and my wife does not like it at all.  After we had been married a few years, she tried adding sugar and liked it, has made it that way since.  She does not add much sugar so it is just barely noticeable.  Hot out of the oven with lots of butter is very good.  Leave the butter off if putting ham and beans over it.  Of course, Mother's cornbread was very good without sugar because she baked it in an iron skillet with bacon grease heated to nearly smoking before pouring in the batter.

Mom makes unsweetened cornbread in a cast iron skillet and it is served crumbled in a bowl with butter and brown (pinto) beans. Buddies wife makes sweet cornbread, it is also served crumbled in a bowl, but with chili. The latter is a traditional dinner day before deer season and lunch on opening day. Both are excellent and both are dangerous when reheated and eaten the next day.........................

In New England cornbread is often the basis for strawberry shortcake, which is all the better with stewed chilled rhubarb added to the berries.
.
RHUBARB in strawberries?  That stuff will pucker your lips tighter than sucking on a persimmon. 100% Yank food right there.

Yup! You are a Yank when it comes to cornbread and that nasty Rhubarb, but your still ok in my book! ;)
.
Rhubarb is good for you. Yes, it requires sugar to cut the astringency. But classic NE strawberry-rhubarb pie with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream is essential if your a Yankee.
But a corn bread strawberry-rhubarb short cake will do. Grits I can pass on, but hush puppies are OK.

But best use of corn meal is in old fashioned Indian Pudding. Or maybe an Italian polenta with sausage and peppers in a marinara....mmmmmm!

I make my cornbread without sweetners and without white flour….just cornmeal. Eggs, cornmeal, buttermilk, baking powder, baking soda and lots of butter or bacon grease.
Put a skillet in a hot oven, butter or grease in the skillet. Mix the ingredients. When the grease starts to smoke, pour in the mix and cook until the edges turn brown and crispy. Serve with honey.
