in a 1992 Lincoln or Ford anything

Reminds me of the time about 40 years ago when I found a cherry 10 year old very low mileage Cadillac Coupe Deville convertible for under $3,000.00. Told my dad I was gonna buy it. He said: Call the dealership and ask them what a replacement front bumper for that Cadillac costs first.
I told dad it didn't need a front bumper, but he said, just call and ask, and call me back.

I called. WOW!

Dads' point was made. If was triple what a Chevy bumper would cost.

My other half has a Grand Marquis, she bought with 84,000 miles 14 years ago with the same engine, the best gas mileage we got was 24 on the highway running alcohol free gasoline in South Dakota.
I never check in town mileage.

i had the itch for one of those 2 door single seat caddys built on the vette chassis. I almost pulled the plug on one until i found out that the rear taillight assemblies were so hard to get people were paying 10k for used ones. You could pick them up for half what a vette costs but one little tap in the back that takes out a taillight and they were calling them totals.

I was wrong on her car, stupid as I should known with out thinking as I bought parts for it; it is a Grand Marquis, which was produced years after they ceased making the Crown Victoria.

She has had both bumpers repaired, not replaced, a deer and a delivery truck, one fender replaced (rust) and both rocker panels repaird.

On the Rocker panels, the left side was a little over 200 for parts, the right side was 500. I actually went to a Ford dealer for the parts and the shop man said he had no idea why the difference, so a gent at the body shop cut and welded in replacement metal, on the right side rather than a factory part for far less money.

Now we  had an old school body man , who sadly retired last year, but cost for parts were not excessive and I ordered all the parts myself online and one place we got the fender from, sent a left front rather than a right front, when I told them, they sent the correct fender (no extra cost) and told me to keep the other fender.
It is still in the form fit box the factory puts them in, in the garage, AND  I do not remeber what, or when I actually ordered a different time,  but I got a complete steering column (plug and play) that I had not ordered, I needed a body part,  from the same yard.   Again they told me to just keep it and then sent the correct item.
I still remember the body shop man calling me and saying "Bob I think you should come and see what they sent."

SO, if you take the time to order your own parts, it save you money, and the body shop people appreciate it.

Take it , fill the gasoline tank as full as you can, take 50-70 mile drive on a highway, refill and check mileage, THEN, after you have had it for a few weeks, do that again.
That will give you semi-accurate idea of gasoline mileage, as driving style affects mileage.

Now when I drive the other half's car on a trip, I drive 65-85 mph most of the time depending on traffic.
Not a bad idea to run several cans of best quality fuel injector cleaner in tank of gasoline -  try to use alcohol free gasoline, as that improves gasoline mileage - at least once.

First thing I'd do is to put a new
OEM quality fuel filter on it
In the future, don't be tempted to use
BS oil, or a bunch of hooey additives
or a cheap oil filter. Use whatever
API specification oil it calls for,
and make sure the proper coolant
is used.  It should last a long long
time if it's in good shape.
Proper lubrication and coolant
is your friend.  Electrolysis and
condensation is your enemy in
this region with that type of vehicle
and engine
Good Luck

So far it works and drives good. And not a lot of high fuel consumption for a V8.

A large Nationwide, car club at a car show rated this Lincoln as a classic. And registered it.Going by the vin it's 30 years old. Makes it a classic all over America, even my insurance company, excellent like new condition, road worthy , low original Mileage my insurance even said. And I shouldn't be driving it. Already offered 20k for it, a guy in Houston Texas. California guy wants it also, he once had one. It brings memories to a lot of rich guys.

It tells you on the dash when it is airing up. I do believe that is an expensive set up.
