Well, darn, just darn
« on: October 06, 2022, 01:21:34 PM »
To be honest that isn't what I said about a phone call this morning. What I said was several triple X rate words not printable here. Why am I upset? I have a nerve problem in my lower back that affects my hip causing a great deal of pain when I walk just a short distance. We have a pain management doctor here that is supposed to be very good at fixing these things and I was referred to him. After waiting 3 months and my appointment was in a couple of days I received a phone call kicking me back 6 more weeks. After waiting all this time and having an appointment on Monday I received a call this morning telling me all new patients were being put on hold because he was too busy to see them and they would call when there was an opening.  Whoopy-tee-doo, I get to keep hobbling around gritting my teeth until---sometime. Guy had time to take a month's vacation during those 4 1/2 months. I hope he enjoyed it.

He is the only game in town closer than Lubbock, TX and that is a 200 + mile round trip. My wife has been seeing the one here and there have been several appointments and she isn't done yet. I can see at least 3 more for her and it has taken over 2 months to get her where she is now. I also don't know just how long it will take to get in to see a Lubbock doctor and I don't really want to make all those trips it is going to take to go to Lubbock. Hobbling around until something opens up here seems to be my best option. Don't tell me about pain medicine. The arthritis doctor already has me on those and an 8 hour dose lasts 3 to 4  hours depending on just how active I try to be. I have been sleeping in my recliner for two months because the bed and I just don't jive now. I miss my tempur-pedic matress but it doesn't like me anymore.

Whew, I feel better now after blowing off some steam.

I feel for ya, I have a similar issue with my hips but thankfully usually only one of them at a time and not all the time as it sounds like yours is. I have permanent nerve issues that aren't going away in this life time. My left hip is so bad that at skin level I have zero feeling. I can scratch it with my nails and feel nothing. Boy I wish that deeper down I had no feeling but no such luck.

You might try a pillow under your legs while sleeping on your back. Sometimes that's the only way I can cope.

It's a shame that so many jumped
on the bandwagon and ruined the
cheap pain relieving medicine
like what I've used before.
I have some nerve damage myself,
but it's not so bad as many have.
In days past I could get on the
phone with my doctor and he'd
call in a half a dozen good pain
pills for about three or four dollars
that would let me sleep and
rest until the spell would subside
until the next go round

The main doofus around here
buys em and mushes em up
and makes a liquid to shoot
with his heroin
18 MINUTES.  . . . . . .

About 45 years ago my first knee surgery on my left knee left me with no surface feeling except for one spot where a nerve is apparently close to the surface. If I accidentally hit that spot on something, it paralyzes me for a few seconds with pain.
Lately though, it's been that knee and both shoulders.

Some folks here have mentioned they have had trouble with sciatica.  Has anyone troubled with sciatica tried
this item?  We do know that 'pressure points' work in certain cases, but how abou this one?

I'm not vouching for it, but just wondering if it works..

My problem is not sciatica, but a left knee that wants to go "trick knee" at times..trying to drop me where
   I stand.
I have a feeling that arthritis is so built up to the point where it seems to kick my kneecap outward or
at least that's how it feels..

My left hip is fine. It's the right one that's killing me. I have a lower vertebra that is tilted and pinching a nerve that is the culprit according to the x-ray and cat scan I had earlier.
The fix is to find the correct nerve and do an ablasion on it I am told. It is a long draw out process to find the correct nerve, at least it has been for my wife that is currently undergoing the same procedure. They have done two series of ablasions and she still has some pain left so they are still working on her. To top off my hip problem I also have bursitis that makes the outer part f my hip deal me misery too but I'll get relif from the arthritis doc again Monday morning with another shot. The shots wear off before I can have another and my latest one has been gone for about a month.

Phalanx, what has being close to Hobbs have to do with my problem?

I was having sciatic pain for 5 or 6 years.  It finally got so bad I could not walk 40 feet with pain and I mean pain.  Finally had the back surgery.  No walking pain, what a relief.  Surgeon said that the nerve had been beatened up and that it would take a year for it to repair itself.  He said that I would have nerve pain that I would not notice it as I had been in such pain for so long.  Best thing that I have done for my back.

The surgeon said that I had the hardest bones that he had ever worked (The operation took 4 hours instead of 1 1/2 hr.  My wife said "you were to operate on his back not his head".

I would get the same "head" comment from my wife.

I went to a neurosurgeon in Lubbock and got blown off. I was bluntly told that my x-ray and cat scan showed my back to be in better shape than most 60 year olds they see and when the pain got worse they would refer me to a good pain management doctor, also in Lubbock, and there goes all those trips back and forth. I guess the guy was flush with patients. I went home to my inversion machine and ice packs which helped some but have become ineffective now. On thing I am certain of. That particular doctor is crossed off my list. I limped into his office and limped out but I wasn't bad enough for him to help.  ::)

Prayers and Jesus helped me with my sciatic pain. It just went away. Before that it felt like in was being electrocuted.

I was going to mention all my pains, but after reading the responses to yours, I decided to keep quiet. It would appear we all share one thing. We're old, and old hurts. :o Good luck dealing with your pain problems.

But no pain management doctors. The only one here is at Nor-Lea in Lovington and the one that put me on will call when there is an opening. There is one in Carlsbad which is closer and much easier to get to than in Lubbock but his reviews are lousy.

I gave my bed a try last night. After two super tylenol I lasted about 20 minutes and it was back to my recliner.

Try the pillow under your knees. It more closely simulates the body position in the recliner. Some nights it's the only way I can sleep.

I prefer to sleep on my side but sometimes on the back with pillow under my knees to raise them is required.

From where I live it is a few miles closer and Roswell is much easier to get around in. Thanks for the information. I will investigate.

No band around the knee is gonna help with sciatica. It is an issue with the sciatic nerve which is the branch of the spinal cord that splits and goes down each leg. Mine manifests mostly in the low back/left hip but at times is in the right side instead.

A band around the knee might help a little with knee pain but my leg is so big I can't buy a knee brace big enough to fit. I have some knee pains but not that often, my back and hips plus both shoulders are my issues.
