if it wasnt for bad luck!
« on: October 10, 2022, 09:36:18 AM »
changing out the shocks on the jeep today. First three went just fine. Last one had to screw me over. One of the two bolts for the top of the shock snapped off right flush when i was taking it out. I put down the tools and walked away. IT will need to be drilled out but i dont do cars when im frustrated. Waiting for cooler heads tomorrow.

No matter what size the project is, there's always that ONE bolt.

My son in law is a diesel mechanic and can fix about anything car related. He usually does about all my mechanic work anymore. I bought a car lift this summer and told him i bought it for him. He smiled and said it will probably cause him more work because he will have to fix my screw ups. My back is to bad to stand there and hold the drill over my head to drill it out so i had to call him yesterday and ask him to fix it. He laughed and said "i told you so." I love cars. Always have and used to enjoy working on them. Any more i detest it. This was actually my own fault for not being patient. The bolt wouldnt break loose with my 3/8s impact so i took my big brute dewalt 1/2 in impact out instead of just going slow with a breaker bar. Ive always been more of a brute force type of guy then a finesse type

If I had a dollar for every time I've done the same thing.......

After "it" happens, I've been known to say, "If I had just......., I wouldn't have this problem. Too little, too late!

Heat, PB Blaster and time on anything that doesn't break free easily.  My 16-year-old son found out the hard way replacing his turbo on his truck, broke off a manifold bolt, there was just enough bolt to get a vise grip on, so the heat/PB/time was still able to work on it.

found an easy way to get it out. Son in law just picked it up and is taking it to the shop to get it out.
