I did like "Fury", although there were a couple goofs, all in all, better than most Hollyweird "tank films".. it was quite good.

Here is Russian film depicting WW2 tank battles.  It is subtitled, so it is entertaining.  I have watched some of
the Russian war films and discovered that they have a different character than ours.

We want to see the hero, come through a very tough spot..but still emerge victorious, where the Russians seem to want their heroes to "die in glory...for the cause..

Strange beginning..almost like some kind of a horror film, but stick with it..it all becomes plausible..

For the life of me I can't recall the name but it was an old movie and the Germans ran out of fuel for their tiger tanks at the end and walked away. I'll give Fury an ok, not an OK, as it had some unnecessary and rather degrading parts and the final scene was vastly over done IMO plus I don't consider Pitt an outstanding actor. I also liked Kelly's Heroes, improbable story, but still a good movie.

Battle of the Bulge?  Good movie for drama...  Of course, I am likely unfairly critical, but the Germans were using M47 Patton tanks as "king Tiger" tanks (there were very few King Tigers on the western front).

The Americans were using M41 Walker Bulldog tanks... a light, fast recon tank, lightly armored and lightly gunned (76mm).  There may have been a sprinkling of M24 Chaffee light tanks with the "American forces"..

The M47 Patton, was the tank I took my tank training in..while in my TO&E unit, was equipped with M48 Patton
tanks.  We did have one M41 in the battalion, intended for recon.

Ironically, the Battle of the Bulge took lace in Dec 1944..while the M41 Walker and the Patton s M47 & M48 were not built until the 1950s.

So far as the movie "Fury" was concerned..it could have been planned as part of the movie, but there were at
least two glaring mistakes by the crew..

   1) An MBT (main battle tank) should never go out an play "Lone Ranger"..they are designed to work as a team..

 2) Never leave the tank unguarded...as they did when they went up to visit the ladies.  Again however, I am likely hyper critical, having been a tanker..

When I was stationed in Europe, I did visit some of the sites of that battle.  A very touching place is the wall &  pagoda at the little corner park, which commemorates the spot where task force under Joaquin Pfeifer massacred their American captives...about 225 of them. as I recall.

It is referred to as the "Malmedy Massacre", since it took place at  crossroads on a hilltop near the town of
    Malmedy, France.

Below...see an 47 Patton.."King Tiger"  and an M41 Walker Bulldog..

The Bulldog does look ominous. But the goal was to blow the turret off.

The Bulldog does look ominous. But the goal was to blow the turret off.

The M41 was a light tank, built for speed to reconnoiter..  It could resist .50 cal and some light arty strikes,
but relied upon it's speed and maneuverability.
Most MBTs of that era could hit about 30 mph. The M41 hit 45 mph, but when driving one that extra speed
   seemed much faster.

I recall giving a jeep driver the willies, as I tailgated him...

Nevertheless, it's "different strokes for different folks"..and so it is, "different deals for different steels"..or
  homogenous armor plate, that is..

The most important thing is to get off the first well-aimed shot.  Stats say that generally whether it is a kill shot or not, the one that gets the first hit..usually finishes the job.

When their tank is hit, I guess the crew undergoes a couple minutes which are emotionally "moving"..
   and delays their return shot..

I did like “Fury”.
I will second the Youtube videos about the battle of 73 Easting. Well worth the time.
“The Tank” from Russia. An interesting take on Ww2.

I rated "73 Easting" very highly, since it was basically a documentary.  Low in interpersonal drama, but high
 on factual information.
During the Gulf war, Gen Schwartzkopf was very entertaining during his press conferences.

never thought much about it before this thread but there is a unexplainable lack of tank movies. Tons of air force, navy and ground pounding army and marine movies but few tank movies. Surprising considering the important role they have  done for this country and for that matter all the major militarys of the world

I think that may be due to the difficulty to be accurate in the depiction.  Just as the "Bulge' movie had US tanks
  in use on both sides.
If they wanted to have actual Tiger tanks..the finding and shipping would be prohibitive.  THere were 2 Tiger tanks..  #1) A tank designed by Ferdinand Porsche, started the Tiger legend   #2) The Porsche's replacement was a tank designed and built by Henschel, often referred to as the "king" Tiger.

Our tanks had great difficulty in head to head match with either tiger, but our  M26 Pershing tank, introduced just before the end of the war, was fully up to the job.
The Pershing was then further developed and led to the M46, M47 & M48 Patton series tanks.
